He definitely was a top footballer - if you recall, he was voted european player of the year. But he certainly lost a **** load of pace due to bulking up.

I think the timing on interview indicates that he will play some part on Thursday. What encouraged me from his fleeting cameos was that although he came into difficult games with the team bereft of confidence, he still demanded the ball and tried inventive things.

Owen bulked up because of the injuries not the other way round, they worked on protecting his strings by slapping muscle on his legs - hence he lost his seering pace.

Dani Pacheco is playing with the Spain U19 team and scored both goals as Spain beat Portugal 2-1. The first a left footed effort, the second a drive with his right foot from outside the area. I only watched tha game on/off, but he looked class.

                            Two good finishes from Pacheco.

Could this season be his breakthrough?

Not sure - we seem to have a load of attacking midfield options of a similar ilk at the minute. No genuine wide players (assuming Riera is to leave) and only really Torres as an experienced front man. Maybe we could experiment with some sort of 4-6-0 type formation.

That's a good point. He's unfortunate in that his best position is the same position as Gerrard, Aquilani and Joe Cole's.

Maybe he'll get a chance as a withdrawn second striker if we play 4-4-2 in some games. I certainly think he should be starting League Cup and some Europa League games.
