I know you say it in jest but I have always wondered about formations without strikers. As silly as it might sound I think with the right players rotating in to the right space it is something that could potentially work.

      Gerrard, Aquilani & Cole?

      This position...

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

It wasn't wholly in jest - in recent years United and Barcelona have tried something not too far away. I don't think it is entirely out of the question but I'm not sure Hodgson is the right man to try it (it seems to have faded at United with the departure of Quieroz and I suspect it requires a particular type of coaching to make it work).

He should be regular in all competitions except PL and even there he should get few opportunities from time to time.

I think he's a bit special, I really do. I really hope Roy gives him a chance this year. I would have him as an impact sub to start off with.

                Agreed.

He's at the age now where he needs to be getting regular playing time.

Absolutely, Pacheco is a player we should take very good care of. He is clearly one of the best young talents in the world. I can't think of many player his age that have his quality. Im praying that he starts breaking into the first team this season so that he doesn't just fade away. I don't think he himself will be willing to spend another season in the reserves

I was thinking about this last night. It's easy to assume Pacheco will become fed up if he doesn't get a chance this season, but he should look at Pedro. 12 months ago he was a virtual unknown and now look at him, yet he turns 23 in a week or so. 23! Pacheco is just 19 and, although I know we're no Barca at the moment, he needs to be patient.

Like you I think he's a great talent but as dww said the other day, we're starting to look pretty strong in the 2nd striker/attacking mid position now and it's not gonna be easy for him.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Seems all the Spanish lads do the Ardeloa goal celebration.

Would love to see him challenge Kuyt for that right striker role.

There are a lot of youngsters about with undoubted talent, but it’s the confidence of Pacheco that I think will see him make it. I love how he’s always looking the ball when he plays and unlike some of his peers isn’t afraid to ignore Gerrard if he thinks something better is on.

Amoo looked very impressive last night, but one time after a good solo run, he had the chance to shoot, but instead decided to try and set up the more senior Degen. I’m sure after a few more games he’ll get a bit more adventurous, but I don’t think Pacheco would have cared if he had the King and Pele in front of him, he’d have taken the shot.

That right there is a big point about Pedro. He learned alot from watching Etoo, Henry, Iniesta, Messi etc etc. We don't really have those kinds of special flair players. I think Pacheco is developing faster and he needs to start breaking into the team if he's going to continue developing. He's been giving a taste of european compitition now and he's had a couple of league appearances too. He has shown himself to be very capable and he must be impressing spanish clubs with his showings for the Spain youth team so I think if we want him to a future star for Liverpool then we need to let him know we appreciate his talents but giving him more first team action. I fear we will lose him otherwise.

Very true, he never looks scared or anxious. He's clearly a very confident player and I think he could really surprise people this season if given the chance. Bring him through I say, give the senior players some serious compitition and make them worry about their places

My worry with Pacheco is whether we'll be patient enough with him to nurture him and let him break through gradually over the next couple of seasons, the thing is with Gerrard, Cole, Aquilani, Kuyt, Maxi all ahead of him for the right midfield and 2nd striker slot (that's presuming we play with one this year) he'll need to be given time.

Slightly off topic perhaps in this thread but I would like us to look at 4-3-3 at times this season because with Pacheco/Kuyt/Maxi/Babel (if he stays) and Cole we now have plently of players who caould play either side of Torres
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.
