He seemed to be coming in from a left sided position for the u19s the other day, so that might be an option. I'd be gutted if we didn't keep him as I genuinely think he is a special talent.

Do you think they will be fit much though Craig? Those 3 players missed a hell of a lot of footy last seasonOriginally posted by Craig_H View PostProblem is, where's he gonna play?
We've got Gerrard, Cole and Aquilani all well ahead of him as the '2nd forward' or in the 'hole' player. He'd get very little game-time.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

True for PL but he could and should play regularly in all other competitions. He is a real talent and it would be waste not to give him enough opportunities to grow and properly develop.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostProblem is, where's he gonna play?

He seems to be playing on the left for Spain Craig and here, he'll have world beater Luke Young to cover him and provide overlaps for him to shine even more.

I think he would get game time. Maybe not a whole lot of starts but he would be one of my first choices for attacking subs to come on. He's so lively and he makes things happen. I would have him on the bench every game as an option for later in the game. Then depending on how well he did give him the odd start. I think he's ready. I hope Roy agrees.

I'm not sure Woy has had the chance of working with him yet mate, he's been off with Spain all the time this pre-season.

That's a big call, putting him ahead of a £20m player, in the pecking order.Originally posted by Tee View PostI would give him a chance, probably at the expense of Aquilani. Bottom line is Hodgson will see him day in day out in training, and if he thinks he is good enough I just hope he has the balls to give him a proper run in the team.
Such a shame he is away with Spain right now because these Europa qualifiers could have been a great opportunity for him.

Well yeah, and personally, i dont think Aquilani's fitness can be relied upon.Originally posted by SB View PostDo you think they will be fit much though Craig? Those 3 players missed a hell of a lot of footy last season
Gerrard's not injury prone though, and i dont think he'd be as unlucky as last season - and Cole's virtually only had two proper injuries in his career, but they've just been massive injuries. I dont consider him injury prone and would expect him to be fit more often than not, assuming he's fully recovered from the knee injury.
Regarding the talk of him playing on left - i understand what people are saying, but when push comes to shove, he's not a winger. Maybe in english football, he'd get more space out wide than centrally, but i'm not sure it'd be natural for him.

Manager's of big clubs have to make these calls. Can you imagine the confidence it would give the lad, knowing his Manager is trusting him ahead of a £20m player? I would have absolutely no problem with it and I think his time is here (hopefully).Originally posted by Craig_H View PostThat's a big call, putting him ahead of a £20m player, in the pecking order."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." and what would it do to Aquilani's confidence?

Craazy idea but play the players in form - if he comes back from this tournament in the same sort of form he will be pushing for a start - it will do those in front of him no harm to be pushed by this kid for their starting place.
We don't really know how Roy will line up in the league he could go 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 or something else.

Well, whoever Pacheco comes in for will obviously not be happy, but as an experienced Pro I would expect him to knuckle down and win his place back. Isn't that how football clubs work??

It doesn't matter what age he is. Within a month of regular football in our first team I bet you Pacheco would be as deserving of a first team place as Torres, Gerrard and Cole. What a brilliant attacking 4 that would be
Or play Gerrard deeper and push Aquilani forward into that attack. Jovanovich and Kuyt can warm the bench. And Ryan Babel can get to ****
