Rafa hoping to agree fab deal

RAFA HOPING TO AGREE FAB DEAL
    Paul Eaton 29 November 2009

Rafael Benitez is hoping Brazilian defender Fabio Aurelio will commit his future to Liverpool.
Aurelio is out of contract next summer and Benitez is hoping a 'realistic' agreement can be struck between both parties.

"Fabio has been really unlucky. When we spoke to him about an extension he had an injury and he has had a lot of injuries in the past," said Benitez.

"We made him an offer and the agent said not at the moment.

"We will talk to him again in the future because he is a good person and great professional.

"Maybe the situation needs to be looked at in a different way. He has to be realistic. I know he's pleased here and the important thing is I have a good relationship with him."

Personally I think Aurelio should be back in as our first choice left back, Insua has progressed massively this season but he is still young and has a fair bit to learn yet. When Aurelio is in form he makes a lot of difference to our left hand side. Injuries are the only concern.

the very fact thats he's had so many injuries and he's what 30? let him go in the summer. he'll always be injury prone. plus no point saddling the new manager with the extra baggage.

I think if you read what Rafa has to say you will see that Rafa has taken this into account. It is clear we have offered Aurelio a low paying deal because of age and injuries and as such he is asking Aurelio to be more realistic in his wage demands.

I personally would like to keep Aurelio as when he is fit he is a good asset in a number of positions. As long as the wages offered to him are realsitic, which they seem to be, we should keep a hold of him.
        Forwards.......

We shouldn't be relying on Aurelio to be a first team player in any capacity.

Is it wise to waste any transfer budget on a player who is mostly injured.

If we get rid we won't get enough money for a replacement, so from that point of view we'd be better keeping hold of him as a backup for first team (Insua seems to be first choice) and he's a good player. We should hopefully be offering a pay as you play contract given his injury record, which should mean no more money coming out of the transfer budget.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

don't forget pay as you play is a bit of a red herring,he would still be picking up a wage just a reduced rate.it could be something like £10,000 aweek but if the player plays it could go upto say£50,000 for that week because he played.
                who's arsed?

If he plays he gets a paid more than he does at the moment, if not he gets paid less, on average his wages probably won't go up. If he plays every game we pay a bit more and a have a good player who's determined to fight for his place. And we don't have to buy a replacement (and pay his wages)

I think we should pay him on the basis of the accuracy of his free kicks. Could make some massive savings there from the "Brazilian Maestro" (as in austin maestro).

We don't need another potential Agger on our hands. Then again, if he doesn't sign we'll have to rely only on Insua, especially when we know we don't have the funds to spend on a new LB, any good left backs in the youth set-up?

I really rate Aurelio but it would be fair to say you can't rely on him with his injury record.

He should definetely be given a new deal though.

I'd like to see us sell Insua and i think the Doss will be on as well so a new left back is a priority for us imo.

He has been offered one, he rejected it and is a free agent in less than 5 Weeks

Yeah i was just stating that.

I really hope he sorts it out with the club and remains a Liverpool player.
