Put it in perspective, Blackburn and Bolton have been better than us as well. They are supposed to be average teams.
Did you see the size off those chickens?

Disagree, we sat back back tonight and let them come at us for most of the game, reminiscent of 2 seasons ago in the champs league. We held them off, could have scored another 1 or 2, but we didn't have the players in midfield to shore it up, with Momo and Stevie playing tonight we would have beat them by more.

Good for you - been too much negativity around recently including from myself.
Have to point out though - been a lot of shouts lately for Gonzalez to play, people cant understand why Rafa doesnt play him etc. So he plays, and i havent read one good word about him so far this morning, only that he was crap and shouldnt be playing!! Cant comment myself as i didnt see the match but fcuk me - the fickle fan eh

Bottom line IMO - a win away from home, goal scored by one of our strikers, clean sheet, nice gap opened up over Gala and Bordeaux in the table.
All in all - a nice little confidence booster going into Sundays game.

I agree Joe. Ok so it was hardly a vintage performance but at last we have an away win and an away goal from open play. Let's try and be positive - its a confidence boosy before Sunday when we'll see a very different team I suspect. At least its a start and a small step back in the right direction.

We would have been trounced if we were playing Lyon or one of the top sides because we were poor last night. Wasn't confident at all at the end.

I think its hard to criticise some players when they get a game every month or so.
Zenden especially is hardly match sharp.
Plays well in CS and then the odd bit parts since.

If we take a players performance off one game then Stevie shouldbe sacked for last w/e?

Last night what seemed very apparent to me was the lack of speed in counter attacking. We seemed very slow in attacking. Yet we have Speedy, and Belamy.
Can't help feel we actually went there not to get beat.

              IMO
Speedy should be given a run of games with Riise LB. These 2 can produce a great partnership.

Agree with your final comment, Speedy looked anything like speedy last night and his 1st touch was poor. A run of games would be the best chance of improving, however that doesn't look likely at the mo.

I feel both speedy and pennant need a run of games to settle in, but they are just not getting the chance - their confidence must be low. They miss a few games, get a chance but probably try to hard to make an impression, get takin off after 6omins or so and then don't play for 3/4 games and the cycle repeats

Can't help feel tactics came into it.

we seemed more intent on defending 1st.

Seems we allow certain players off days but others only get 60 minutes.

Last night we had to avoid defeat, its away in europe.
We did better than that and won.
aint pretty but we're not playing well.
                          So job well done

                            Something is not right.
Some of the players seem to be looking disinterested.
There is no fluidity to our play, and to be perfectly honest many of our 'top' players have not performed yet this season.
Gerrard, Alonso, Carragher have all been way below their best, and Pennant, Gonzalez and Bellamy have looked nothing other than mediocre thus far.
Garcia and Crouch are in and out of the team like a yo-yo.
Benitiez is changing personnel and playing positions more often that the weather changes.
All of the above are problems!

I thought that Riise and Hyypia were probably our best players last night, but no-one looked a class act!

Momo did when he came on.
