'fraid so. He hasn't improved one iota in the last couple of years. Kelly has overtaken him in no time at all with less chances and having been out for a year or so with a dodgy back.

Kelly over took Darby because Darby was injured in pre season. So don't write the lad off. Kelly did well in pre season so got his chance, and I don't think he let anyone down. But Kellys best position is CB. I think in the long term Darby has what it takes to become a squad player at Liverpool. He can play both full back positions, so tonight is his chance to shine.
        Forwards.......

I think it is important that we as fans learn to be able to write off young players as early as possible. Before they have played for the first team if possible. If we don't we'll have to accept having perfectly decent squad players like United have with Brown and O'Shea and will have nothing to moan about in future.

Yeah it's ****ing bad times when you can't get fired up for a Champions League match as we're out of the ****ing thing already, disgraceful

I'm just looking forward to seeing how the Italian gets on, not expecting him to be at his best as he hasn't played alot but hopefully we'll see a few glimpses of what he can bring to the team

pretty much only reason to watch this game so lets all hope and pray rafa plays him......although fiorentina are quite a physical team so maybe he wont.

I think it's more important that we as fans learn to identify the important aspects of a player's position. Work out how to evaluate their level with respect to that position, compare and contrast to accomplished performers and then watch them for a couple of years to see if they improve.

But hey that's just me, I guess I could spend my time spewing sarcastic hyperbole instead.

I think both Rafa and Kelly see him as a right back in the future, Kelly spoke of modelling his game after Glen Johnson as well, which would be pretty daft if you were a centre back.
                    * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Come on give a little I was just having a laugh. People do seem to me very keen to decide that players are not good enough on limited evidence but ultimately our opinion of any player matters very little unless we choose to express it en-masse at games.

The comment wasn't directed at anyone in particular but I just find it odd the way that many people want us to give young players a chance and then when they are judge them very harshly. Darby hasn't even started for the first team and as such to claim that he isn't good enough at this stage would seem some what unfair.

Whatever. You'd be better off finding a more appropriate vehicle for your pisstakes in future then.

                            Bench??
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Are you watching Manchester United? Are you watching Chelsea? This is Liverpool F.C taking over the bloody world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good to see a strong XI, strong enough to win the game.
