It may not have been the right result on the pitch for Liverpool today, but off the pitch it was a success for the Liverpool Supporters Union, Spirit of Shankly.

A peaceful protest took place prior to kick off, aimed at denying joint owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett access to Anfield. The protest was a success with 8 empty seats in the director’s box during the game and police turning Hicks and Gillett away on health and safety grounds.
SOS posted a short update on their Facebook page tonight saying the protest worked. Full details will be made available on Monday.

It appears there were some arrests, although one in particular seems to have been a blatant targeting of an SOS leader.

Yes, of course it does. Net spend may stay at 1.5 million, but both revenue spending will be lower, meaning we sink further.

No, that detracts from the capital value as well as limiting earning potential through a weaker team.

Using money to spin plates, by shifting it around is modern business, having a paddy because people don't like you is just playground behaviour. The Americans might bang their fists on a few tables but they aren't going to screw LFC over just to get back at some foreign prole soccer supporters. No but if as proposed in one of the above posts the fans aren't buying shirts, merchandise, programmes or food etc, the cut in revenue will hit us somewhere, would Hicks and Gillette at that point decide to put their hands in their own pockets to pay off the loans?

Liverpool have abandoned plans for a mosaic on the Kop bearing the word “amici” – friends - to welcome Fiorentina to Anfield for tonight’s Champions League fixtures amid concerns it may offend Juventus supporters in the run-up to the 25th anniversary of the Heysel disaster.

The Premier League club had been asked by some supporters to create a mosaic as a goodwill gesture to Fiorentina after Liverpool’s travelling fans were afforded a warm welcome in Florence in September.

One group of Fiorentina’s ultras had asked for a formal twinning between the two sides – though no such link has been established – prompting Juventus fans to express their fear some fans of their fierce rivals were abusing the good relations between the clubs to taunt the Turin side over Heysel.

“We are sure Liverpool fans do not know how their name and shirts are being used to offend the victims of Heysel, but we wish to inform them how Fiorentina will use the link. If there is no respect for the victims, we will always turn our backs on any new request for forgiveness.”

Sources at Liverpool insist the mosaic was intended purely as a goodwill gesture but the decision was taken last night that such an act may have been open to misinterpretation.
