    Trying to remain calm.........

Prior to the Fiorintina game it looked like Liverpool were finally starting to get their act together. I discounted the Fiorintina result on the basis we did not have a full side out, but the Arsenal result was a real hammer blow.

I did not get to see the game due to work, so was checking on the BBC sports page as it updated itself. Prior to the game, like some others I had a genuine hope that if we did win it we could really get ourselves into a very positive position, and I had no reason to think we could not win the game.

After reading post match analysis from both Rafa, Arsene and all the newspapers, it seemed like Liverpool dominated the game and should have won the game by half time, but I was more than happy to see us go a goal up.

    Positive signs.

Then I read how we conceded the goals, not by are team capitulating, but a fluke goal and piece of Magic by Arshavin. So no real concern there on the face of things. But then when we look deeper, therein lies the real problems.

First off, I was not suprised, angry or pissed off by us throwing away the lead. I have become used to it and just kind of though.......Oh well........... When it gets to that scenario, I know we have real problems. I should be suprised. I should be angry. I should not expect and accept our team crumbling once again.

But I did, because it is by no means the first time it has happened this season. It just seems to happen on a regular basis. And I just can't figure out why. And nor, I guess, can Rafa or anyone else.

    Serious problems at Anfield.

However, I still think we can finish fouth, and I guess people will start to feel a bit better if we win our next three league games - and these are games we should stroll with Gerrard and Torres back. We have our full team now and there can be no more excuses.

If Rafa still has the dressing room, and there is no way I can ever know this, then I am more than happy for him to remain in charge until at least the end of the season. We'd then have to look at how the season has finished.

It's just a hige annoyance that it seems no one in this league looks like they actually want to win the title, or finish top four. Last season we were so close, and with funding we would have walked it this year.

    Just so ****ing gutting.

I would love to see the stats of goals to shots we let in.......it seems teams score on average every other attack with us

Good post mate, and some valid points made. I don't agree with this though.

Granted we beat Everton and Debrecen before the Fiorentina game but our performances were ****e in both games and we showed no real signs of improvement. Our first half display yesterday was the best we had played in some time which makes it all the more galling to see how we fell apart so utterly in the second half.

I don't mean we were looked great all over the park and like world beaters. But we had tightened up at the back and actually looked like not conceding goals. Against Everton we conceded all the possession (which in itself is worrying) but for all their efforts they never looked like scoring, other than a couple of occasions as a result of their team being a million miles taller than ours.

          ---------------

It would nice to brush the Arsenal result under the carpet. Had it been the fist time we had thrown away a lead, I would look at the game, look at the goals conceded and look at the opposition. We played a top quality team who out play nine out of ten opponents. We dominated them in the first half and could have won it by HT. We limited them to hardly any chances and the goals conceded were out of the ordinary. One was a fluke and the other was just simply special. That's how it goes when you play a top team, sometimes it goes for you and sometimes it doesn't.

But it's happened on numerous occasions this season and that is why I'm worried.

the only thing im alarmed at is the lack of fight.

we dominated th first half but didnt get a proper shot on goal in the second. when we were trailing? why the fook was that? we should have been roaring at them with wave after wave.

we are too often a bunch of cloggers, our ball control is poor and we're lacking fight and character.

until we sort at least one of those out, ****e results will continue. defence is getting better tho and if torres, gerrard and and alberto get fitter sooner, i expect we'll be just fine.

I think we're playing a lot better than we were a few months ago, we outplayed them in the 1st half, should have had a penalty and somewhat understandably got a little panicky as time went by.

Arsenal are up with Man U and Chelsea (after last seasons stumble, take note doom mongers) so to lose 2-1 isn't that bad compared to some recent results and performances. Obviloulsy not what we wish for but I do think we're finaly starting to warm up a bit and play a bit better, with a few better results and the boost to morale we'll be less inclined to sit so deep or hit long balls. Things are coming together, all far to late but we are where we are.

As an aside, does it piss you off when pros and pundits make up their own laws.

Such as the old "Clear daylight" for off sides or last nights "He'd lost control of the ball" for Stevies penalty, by that logic anything that happens off the ball is fine because they weren't about to shoot. And they get paid for this **** !

The thing I hate at the moment is that we can go from being good like we were in the first half yesterday to being dire so quickly (second half yesterday). It's not just that game, it's been happening all season, our performance level just bottoms out almost instantly.

Last season I'd have fancied us to come from behind against anyone and when we were in the lead I was confident we'd win, this season the number of times we've given away leads in crazy, especially considering we've not even going all out to score a second goal!

Confidence. It's a vicious cycle, but that's just the way it is.
