    Speedy Gonzalez

Just been browsing the forums, i've seen a few posts questioning Mark Gonzalez's performance last night.

Righto, he didn't play very well. But let's just keep a few things in mind:

    * We played like ****e.
    * It was Speedy's first game in a while. Have we all forgotten how he played against Spurs, he was very good.
    * He's still adjusting to the players around him, new country, all that crap.
    * We've seen the quality he has, in some of his performances in Spain for Sociedad.

Be patient, and Speedy will repay your faith.
    On the Ning Nang Nong
    Where the Cows go Bong!
And the Monkeys all say Boo!
    There's a Nong Nang Ning
    Where the trees go Ping!
And the tea pots Jibber Jabber Joo.
    On the Nong Ning Nang
    All the mice go Clang!
And you just can't catch 'em when they do!
    So it's Ning Nang Nong!
    Cows go Bong!
    Nong Nang Ning!
    Trees go Ping!
    Nong Ning Nang!
    The mice go clang!
What a noisy place to belong,
Is the Ning Nang Ning Nang Nong!!

The lad needs a bit of confidence, has the pace but is just lacking the technical ability to deliver the right balls and go past players without losing the ball or his footing.

Agree with that. Some people are far too quick to condemn him as mediocre; Gonzales is a young kid in a new country trying to get used to a completely different style of play and culture. He obviously isn't match fit at the moment, but I think he'll be alright in the end, I really do
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
      Mine angry and defrauded young?

Maybe Danny Agger should give him some pointers

Don't understand why he doesn't play in the reserves more, okay it will knock someone out the reserve side, but Gonzalez is more important to us at the moment.

That's not fair really though is it, Agger signed in January and was hardly seen for 6 months... plus he's Danish not Chilian, and Scandinavians generally settle pretty well in England (familiar with the weather, the language etc).

Gonazalez speaks fluent English I think.
              .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Gonzales has hardly been the ****tiest player in the team in any of the games he has played. To my mind the lad needs a run in the team.

To be fair, he was probably hungover.

Thing is - you can actually see the lad is trying - maybe even too hard. He lacks a little composure at the moment but I believe that will come in time. Rafa has this knack of improving players - and I believe he'll turn Gonazalez around.

                          Pennant is another matter though............

Gonzalez just needs a run in the squad. He's faired better than Aurelio in the few games he's played.

True, but then, to be brutally honest, Aurelio's been pretty woeful, thus far.

A half fit Harry Kewell would still walk into our current side.

If it was down to me, I'd play Warnock at left back and Riise in front on Sunday.
