    Fair Play To Alan Smith

    http://www.teamtalk.com/football/sto...614505,00.html

    Here's a snippet...

"Unfortunately, people drag up the tiny part about the ambulance," he said.

"It is sad we always seem to want to dwell on the negatives rather than the positives. I never really noticed anyway, so there are no negative feelings from my point of view.

"We are talking about one person in a million. For every individual doing something like that, there were loads and loads, particularly at Liverpool FC, who wished me well. John Arne Riise got in touch, as did most of their players. I got phone calls and everything.

"You cannot put a price on the lengths people will go to in an effort to try and help you, most of which is not seen.

"If the people from Liverpool had not acted as swiftly as they did, the situation could have been a lot worse and it will be nice to have a chance to thank them personally on Sunday."
Credit where it's due. Neville will probably give him some funny looks now though

I've never disliked Alan Smith to be fair.

He's a similar player to me cough****cough, but he never lacks effort and i like that in a player.

[QUOTE=Bob]I've never disliked Alan Smith to be fair.

I've never liked him! And that turned to hate when he signed for Scum.

But I must admit that I'm warming to him a little now after this. Well done Alan smith.

Good on the lad for speaking out...took a lot of guts considering the team he plays for and the so called rivalry between the clubs.
Keep on rocking in the free world!

I have always quite liked Smith and still think he would have been a good signing for us (as a squad player) when he left Leeds.

I lived in Leeds for a while & new a couple of people who worked in minor positions on the admin. side at the club. They wouldn't have a word said against Smith. They said off the pitch he was a real gent. He would always make himself available for any charity work etc at local hospitals and after games would always sign autographs for anybody who wanted one. Given all that I'm not surprised about this latest article.

Agree with the majority on this thread.
I used to think he was a petulant little ****er. But then again, I loved the way he used to give 100% for the cause all the time, this was especially aparent at Leeds.
This is the second time he has come out and said such things about us when it would have been easy to get all negative about people pushing the ambulance etc.
                      Fair play Alan Smith.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                      * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

It is odd how people change their personality on the pitch. Both Smith and Danny Mills always seem like reasonable people in interviews and off pitch but put come kick off they are dirty as hell.

I have to say although he has a very physical style I have always quite respected Smith and thought he was a good player.

Yup, it's often the case. Jens Lehmann is another one.

Anyone remember Gilles Grimandi? A shy and docile guy off the pitch by all accounts, but an absolute maniac on it!

Never had a problem with Alan Smith - never had him in the same category as certain other ex-Leeds players. Wasn't he supposed to be a pool fan or was that just bull? Was slightly disappointed we didn't sign him tbh.
