In fact growing up it was my dream to become a sports journalist, but as I got older I realised the way I would be expected to twist and distort the truth, along with just writing outright lies, and I became disullusioned with the whole profession. Shame because in essence it's a wonderful job.

well there are a couple of great sports journos out there, jonathan wilson's the first to spring to mind, and i'm sure there are a lot of others who are, if not on the same level, are at least worth reading from time to time.

Not content with the almost obsessional weekly pops at the Liverpool manager by rent-a-gob Stan Collymore (recently outed by the Liverpool Echo – which, without a hint of irony, he called a ‘rag’ – for hiding from Rafa Benítez in the corridors at Villa Park like a frightened little schoolgirl), now others at the Mirror are dogging him.


Is that intentional?

The Mirror is bad at the minute. When talking about how the players showed no passion against Reading, John Cross commented that Insua was half-hearted, Lucas his usual disappointing self and N’Gog toothless. I thought Lucas and N’Gog (first half mostly) did well, and certainly didn’t lack passion.

I don’t think Lucas has ever got over a 5 in the ratings ever. There was also a game at the end of two seasons ago that we won 4-0 or 4-1, and the highest rating was a 6 for Gerrard and everyone else 5 or below.

Not for nothing has the rag been known as the Daily Manc for as long as I can remember - and I'm no spring chicken. They may have Brian Reade etc, but their anti-Liverpool editorial policy has never wavered. No self-respecting Liverpool fan should give good money for it. I wouldn't have it in the house

I don't pay for it, I just flick through. To be honest I only really read McGovern's column, Pooch Cafe (cartoon) and our match reports if we win.

Very good article - the sort that he should concentrate on, i.e. with a well defined target. Too often he can slip into Rafa/LFC propaganda mode with no sense of balance himself when he talks about individual matches.

I think he should start demonising Harry with me though.
