so a big january transfer window budget comine eh? just a shame by then it will probably be too late. whats the point of spending big if by the time we do it we're out of the major european competition and no longer a top 4 club in our domestic league.....we'll be unable to attract the big name signings by then.
listen up you yank ****, if you want to address our weak squad and invest in the transfer market then do it now while it makes sense and would make a difference.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

It also still remains a fact that we shouldn't have to be paying this at all, this debt is as a result of Hicks and Gillette making the club pay for their purchase of it. Think what we could have done with an extra £16m a season in the transfer kitty.
The new hierarchy is generating more than in sponsorship though. The business side of the club has been transformed. Don't you get it? Moores and Parry were clueless.
      Oh I don't know.

What an idiotic reaction, to promise a big summer spend.

Just keep it bloody shut ffs, does this man NEVER learn, even if we have money in the summer don't ****in tell every bloody club in the world.

Anyway i thought our budget was sorted, 20mill per year for the next 5yrs, no more.

Now this, "Big Summer Spend" ****, it's laughable, we are lurching from one joke event/statement to another, as we have done since their arrival really.

Time to appease the fans...oh tell em we'll buy em something nice in the summer.

I fear he's writing cheques with his gob again.

Maybe that's the case (I'm not sure I haven't got the facts), but assuming we pay the debts off in a total of 5 years (which is unlikely) we will have to raise an extra £280m (£200m capital, and £80m interest over 5 years) just for them to break even, only then will we see any benefit. In the mean time we are being held back.

While Moores and Parry were clueless we were able to invest more in players under them than we are now. What is the point in having a football club that is successful in business terms, but not successful in football terms? This only benefits the owners pockets.

It's just a reaction to the recent embarrassing events. Every time something bad happens, Hicks leaks some 'good news'. I do believe Hicks when he says the summer window will be bigger, its exactly 31 days bigger.

You are joking right? £10M net spend per annum.

Not mention the fact the Moores had lend the club £10M to buy Kuyt.
                  Oh I don't know.

I'm sure I read that the average net spend for the last 5 years of the Moores Parry era was ~£12m (I could be wrong on that though). That era didn't include regular champions league football, and had a lower revenue TV deal. So we could realistically have expected that figure to have increased under the same conditions.

Under Hicks and Gilette we have had a net spend of zero for the last 2 seasons and although they spent 'big' in the summer of 2007 the net spend there was about £23m if you average that over 3 years that's a reduction in net spend, compared to the end of the Moores era.

I would imagine our participation in the CL might influence our spending power in Summer in any case.

Nice bit of analysis. Moores was a fan too which makes a difference.

I think whatever happens it will make sense to invest again in the playing squad this summer - not sure whether 'big' will be big in the terms of what people want but I would expect us to revert to spend approximately £15m-£20m nett. Although if we do really big business I suspect that part of it will be the sale of Mascherano.

Be interesting to know as in the first few seasons Rafa was tasked with reducing the wage bill. Which is another one of the factors people tend to forget when assessing how well he has done building the team.
