Yes the wages will also certainly come into it, and should also be considered in analysis of the clubs finances.

Just out of curiosity does anyone have any links to previous annual reports which might give details of the total wage bill? (I seem to remember seeing these type of things floating around at various points). It would be interesting to see how things have changed in this period.

Although if we do really big business I suspect that part of it will be the sale of Mascherano.

It's a sad reflection of the recent investment in new players that allowing us a positive net spend in the summer could be deemed 'spending big'

To be honest, I expected to see something like this. Everytime the **** hits the fan, he comes out with something like this.

He thinks it will distract and pacify the supporters for a while (which it usually does), give us some hope and then when we don't spend anything, he'll just come up with another excuse.

Well this is the second or maybe third statement of intent for the coming months/year, the promise of new investment that needed only a couple or three
months to pull it all together/complete, the commencement of the Stadium build will take place in earnest soon enough, so they say, and now this, a big summer spend on players, so lots and lots to look forward too eh.

Surely, by spending 'big' he meant buying 'big' players no?

A "big summer" can be interperated in many ways, big player ?, big spend ?, they sort of go hand in hand anyway.

I always 'grow it big' in the summer, as opposed to a 'tiny winter'.

Always the best way, grow 'it' big enough in summer and 'it'll' see you through the winter.

Exactly. He just said that the January market is poor (and he's not wrong) and that the summer market will be big. Nothing to do with how much we'll spend
Well, here we are in a room with two manky hookers and a racist dwarf. I think I'm heading home.

                                Maybe they're selling up

That would be a big summer!!
