Standard Chartered deal kicks in during the summer....that's £20 million right there...plus whatever kitty the yanks allow...potential sales of Babel/Mascher or other surplus players...potential for more investment....new stadium underway...hey, it might not be all that bad eh? Purslow seems to have a good business acumen.

That's a good point, the big spending could come from player sales, especially if we are raising a few quid from selling the likes of Dossena, Voronin, Degen and Babel, but not being aploowed to spend it now. Also maybe they've already agreed to sell a player in the summer (such as Mascherano).

I don't think we should assume anything where these two are concerned!

FWIW I sold Degen to Juventus in PES2010 for £15m.

I've got a feeling money is kept back this window incase we don't qualify for the CL, so that we won't feel the effects so much in the summer, apart from being a less attractive option for certain players that is. But if we keep some back now, then financially a year out the CL may not be as bad as feared.

Yeh, looks like the 2 cunts have planning for this eventuality for over twelve months, aren't Tom and George wonderful

Even if we can put a bit of cash aside to compensate for that I still think it's bad for us, in failing to quailfy for the Champions league we will need to significantly improve our squad. It's likely that the money held back will be to pay wages rather than being made available for transfers

The funds for transfers will inevitably be less than we would have had otherwise, meaning we are again operating with one hand tied behind our back. Also no champions league football is likely to have a neagtive effect on potential transfer targets and handing the advantage to one of our rivals.

He's great on FM 2010 so Doogy will be an awesome signing.

I hope this is followed through. Sick of lies and what not from these clowns. Follow through on this or time to get the **** out of our club in my opinion

“Our debt is very manageable (see Man U) and we never use player sales for debt service,” Hicks Sr wrote in the e-mail, responding to concerns from a supporter that Liverpool will not be big spenders in January.

WHAT THE **** IS HE TALKING ABOUT????

Man U already have a stadium much larger than anything we can afford. Our new stadium will put us in debt in excess of ManUs, without their capacity, and ability to repay that debt.

these are a list of 'big' players

                            Konstantinos Chalkias
The Greek keeper had an unsuccessful spell at Portsmouth a couple of years (well, time spent playing second fiddle to Sander Westerweld can hardly be deemed successful, can it?). The 6ft 6in was soon shipped back to Greece via a brief period in Spain.
                            Zeljko Kalac
The Leicester City flop is now the bench-warming keeper of AC Milan. The Aussie is 202cm (6ft 7.5in) tall. He has earned the nickname Spider due to his gangly legs, big armspan and the fact that it is easier to pronounce than Zeljko.

                            Zat Knight
The Aston Villa centre-back is a relative midget in the team standing at a mere 6ft 6in.
                            Rob Jones
Hibernian captain Jones used to be a PE teacher for special needs children. He soon realised that a 6ft 7in PE teacher would intimidate even the bravest of kids and swapped to a career in professional football instead.
                            Dennis Lawrence
The Trinidad and Tobago international was a match for Peter Crouch at the 2006 World Cup because of his 6ft 7in height (although Lawrence is a little bulkier than Crouch). Lawrence can currently be found skyscraping his way around Swansea.
                            Yang Changpeng
The stereotype-bashing Chinese striker was on trial at Bolton earlier this year. As far as we know he is the tallest footballer in the world at 6ft 9in tall (feel free to correct us if you know better though).
                            Nicola Zigic
The 6ft 7.5in Serbian has moved to Valencia this summer after spending the previous season in Spain with Racing Santander.
                            Peter Crouch
Yay! You had been waiting for him, hadn’t you? Crouch is not the tallest player in our side, but certainly the lankiest. The robot-dancing striker might require a seat with extra legroom on the Liverpool bench but his 6ft 7in frame gets him no sympathy around here.
                            Kevin Francis
The Football League’s iconic big man of the 1990s. Another 6ft 7in striker who had his best spell converting crosses for Stockport County.
                            Jan Koller
The 6ft 7.5in Czech striker is a beast. Currently plying his trade for Monaco, Koller is about as big a target as a targetman can get.
                            Tor Hogne Aaroy
The Norwegian giant stands at 204cm (that is over 6ft 8in, oldies). He started his career at Frigg (go on, allow yourselves that schoolboy snigger you’re dying to let out). He had a very brief spell at Rosenborg before moving to Aalesunds where he still plays

How so?? It's at £200 million now...the new stadium was rumoured to cost £350 million...lets say £400million to be safe...that's £600 million...United's debt is well above that already, and that's even before we agree naming rights...and that will happen, Liverpool are still a global brand and a company would pay a pretty penny to have their name associated with our ground for the next 10-20 years....if we can get £20million a year just to have a shirt sponser, i would imagine that there would be similar amounts to have your name infront of Anfield...Sony Anfield....etc for 10 years or more.

Plus the new stadium, with it's corporate boxes bringing in the cash will easily be self-sufficient and pay for itself, probably leaving a fair old whack over as well.

It ain't ****ing depressing, it's business. What's happening on the pitch currently, and in the league...now that's depressing...but even that is gonna get better, i just know it!!

ManU are about £650m in debt

They sell out every game, win the league cup and get to the final of the CL, are better at merchandising, and still make a loss before transfers.
