I can only ask you what seems to be transpiring before my eyes, maybe this can give you some extra insight as to how fans are seeing the game in any case I really hope you get to see this and will take something from it.
First of all thank you for rebuilding the team since your arrival and thanks for the many great memories. Why am I saying this now? you still have the job right, well better to ask the questions when there is a chance of resolution before its too late.
When you arrived at the club you took a no nonsense approach to the role and had the respect of the players why now does it seem the Gerrard, Torres & Carragher do their own thing?
Your probably wondering how i can make that kind of judgement from watching the TV. Well I know that you used to be a very meticulous person and would make underperforming players watch re runs of there mistakes straight after the game. Why do i get the feeling that doesn’t happen anymore? Because i see the same mistakes and individual errors happen time and time again. Why do you let Gerrard take indirect set pieces when he is our best player at attacking the ball in the box? I really don’t get it because surely is only a matter of deduction, you have 11 players out of those eleven the two stand out players for scoring goals from set pieces are Torres and Gerrard. Now let look at delivery you have Lucas, Aquiliani, Agger, Insua and Johnson that can hit good delivery. So what’s more effective I would suggest a slightly weaker delivery is acceptable if you have doubled your chances of scoring from it. But if you would like to reply to that i would be very grateful.
Moving on to young Insua needs a break and needs to be thought more discipline defensively to make up for his lack of pace I am surprised you haven’t completely pinned him back defensively until he learns the art of defending surely now is the time to bring in Aurellio to give Insua a break until we tighten things up and get a bit of confidence through the side. What about Carragher, has he stopped listening to you, does he think he knows it all because thats the way its coming across Why, because we concede from the same situations all of the time surely you have told Carra about his positioning and composure on the ball. Why does he so often over look the simple pass and play a long ball when it is clear that you are trying to create a a team that can play football on the deck. If we had two pacy wingers down the flanks I could see more use for the long ball but there is a lot of pressure on Torres in these situations. Speaking of Torres why don’t you tell him to release the ball more, how many times does he run into a cul de sac. Lucas looks like he will be a great prospect but why does he look lioke hes on a players shoulder rather then moving ahead into space when looking for the ball so often?
There are other areas that I could mention such as Kuyts role etc. but if don’t think that would be fair because our attacking play has been hampered by the loss of Riera on the left which has bottle necked our attacking play.
Good luck to you and I hope you can turn it around it could be a back to basics approach that just might win the day for you.
87 points are still within reach, you have the time now to analyse each game with the Champions League out of the way, the fans believe that anything is possible but do you and more importantly do the players.
Good luck Rafa I hope that maybe there is something that you where able to take from this.
