Juventus Meet Rafa Benitez's Lawyers - Spaniard To Take Over Immediately?

According to Sky Sport Italia, a meeting has taken place between Juventus and the legal team of Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez in Milan, with the Bianconeri pushing for a deal that will see the Spaniard take over in Turin immediately.

Reports have been rife in the press all week that tonight's Coppa Italia game against Inter will be the last on the bench for coach Ciro Ferrara, who will then move upstairs into a director role.

A whole host of names have been linked as Ferrara's successor, including Giovanni Trapattoni, Guus Hiddink, Alberto Zaccheroni and Claudio Gentile. The latter duo were believed to be the favourites, with speculation that one would take over on a short term contract until the end of the season when a big name would be appointed on a permanent basis.

One of these big names was Rafa Benitez, who had emerged over the last few days as the favourite for the permanent position.

However, Sky Sport Italia are now claiming that a meeting has taken place in Milan between Juventus and the Benitez legal team, with the Old Lady hoping to entice the Spaniard to Turin immediately.

These reports have not been confirmed officially by either club, but there have been widespread reports today that Juventus president Jean-Claude Blanc flew to England to discuss this move.

More should become clear in the coming hours, but the fact that Benitez has a contract until 2014 and Liverpool are on the verge of economic collapse may mean that the Merseysiders will be happy to release the ex-Valencia man and not have to pay him compensation.

We have one the best forms in the league at present (over the last 6 games), but over this season ever considered the poor play comes from the fact that we had such a poor spell?

birmingham just had a 15-match unbeaten run ended too.

So is Spain a slow paced game like that too? Because Rafa also did very well there.

i think most people accept that very poor defensively real and barca teamscould not live with valencia. teams that aren't great can win leagues when the bigger teams are in a decline

Disgraceful, how has he ****ed the club?
How does he not have the mentality to win over here exactly? If you want to argue he doesn't have the money, fine, but mentality is a nonsense.

i think the point is that lots of people feel that a method built only on caution doesn't work in the frantic pace of the premiership. there's something totally wrong abou the way we were set up at wolves. end of. you're claiming longterm it will pay off. the evidence might be suggesting otherwise. for example - it didn't pay off against wolves.

So you are going to only go on the last game played? Should use Brain McBride to beat some sense into you.

should we ignore the last game we played? have there not been similar ones? when we win "you're only as good as your last game" so when we lose/draw/play very badly it's just meaningless...? the matches are the evidence

Please let them take fans who are totally involved in short termism.

Stay another season - and begin to prove he can improve the club now that he has control of all levels of coaching and development at the club, otherwise we start again with a new manager, new methods and a rebuilding of the squad.

If we dont finish 4th, that improvement will be incredibly hard to achieve.

                      Agree.

I don't see how anyone could vote otherwise.

If we were playing good football and had been undone by more physical teams, or something, I think I would be tempted to give him another year. The fact that we have had **** results AND diabolical football means it's curtains as far as i am concerned. There are no glipses of future sucess, just ineffective ****e football.

If we'd have had a fully fit Torres, Johnson and Aquilani throughout the season, things may have been a lot different.

Probably not that different, or at least still not good enough. Rafa knew Aqualani was crocked. Knows Torres won't play a whole season and is relying on Ngog as cover.

After what rafa has achieved for our club in extremley dicey financial/ownership/chairmanship circumstances, and with other clubs with limitless war chests to deal with i hope and pray he doesnt leave any time soon.

1 bad season in five is not a crisis for Liverpool Football Club. Lesser teams 'knee-jerk' and sack managers for a bad season but we dont and never will, hence we are the most decorated club in english history.
