Why did Rafa replace the soul of the club with his own people?

Easy question - a lot of people on here know more than I do about this.

From what ive heard he fired Heighway and took down all references of him in the academy - including the removal of all references to him by taking down a plaque that praised SHs achievements

Yes - he wants his own guys in but theyre all foreign with no idea about our heritage. Does that make him Houllier mark 2?

Anyone want to discuss the point I made rationally whether you agree or not? We all want the best but perhaps this is a microcosm of our problems - everyones turning on each other without respecting a difference of opinions

Id love to hear from others with more knowledge than me as to why he took the actions he did - I hope that isnt a negative request...

          He brought in Sammy Lee.

I'd hardly he say "he was one of his own people"

John Mcmahon is at the reserves.

I don't unsderstand what you mean.
Who else has he replaced that a new manager wouldn't normally.

Do you mean swapping English for Spanish?

Because in Rafa's opinion, the club wasn't bringing through enough young talent, was losing out on transfer targets, wasn't teaching skill and guile and generally underperforming.

And i think most fans would have said the same, we were not finding any gems, and as we don't have the cash to buy ready made gems we have a future need to do it a different way.

I expect he feels that if he's to succeed or fail, then let it be on his terms, so he can say he did it his way his with people, no regrets, and to compete long term without being able to match our rivals financially something had to change at this club.

But no body saw this season coming, should it change our minds on Rafa,
the fact that last season we mostly all wanted Rafa to get control, get rid of Parry and the old wood, and go in a new direction with new ways of doing things.

lets face it - the academy wasnt set up correctly in terms of structure and leadership.

Rafa was 100% right to make the changes that he has because ultimately he wants players coming through that can play in the first team, not players that have won 3 reserve league titles and 5 youth cups.

Could some-one knowledgeable please explain to me what was so wrong with the academy? Not disputing it needed changing, would just like to understand why.
                    Really?

I completely disagree with the original post.

Highway was doing a poor job, Houllier had the same problems with him that Rafa had.

Rafa brought Dalglish back to the club

Rafa brought Sammy Lee back to the club

There are rumours Rafa wants to bring Ian Rush in as a coach

Rafa kept Alex Miller on staff when he took over, Alex had been at the club since 1999 as coach. He only left when he was given the chance to manage a club in Japan.

I don't think any of the backroom staff problems can be attributed to Rafa. Rick Parry recruited alot of the people on the academy and he made lots of mistakes.

Didn't he bring McPharland back as well? I think he can't be faulted in this regard really.
                        * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Rafa has transformed the club from top to bottom in a very positve way while having full respect for our history and that is reflected through his appontments.

People should focus on supporting the club rather then helping the media etc. to find another stick to beat Rafa with.
