i hope and pray the atmosphere will be buzzing. 90 mins of non stop singing and cheering to intimidate spurs and inspire the reds. YNWA through the half time so the players can still hear it etc.... just cant let our heads and voices go should spurs score first which is a worry.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

Just hope Rafa picks an attacking team, and we go for them from them whistle.
Otherwise it could be a very long and embarrassing night for us. Max, Aqualliani and Riera must start, at least then the spurs team can see we are going out with some attacking intent, otherwise the match will seem to then, as for the taking.

Liverpool supporters turned out in force before last night's Barclays Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur to fire their team to victory with an intense show of support.

Bill Shankly, the club's legendary manager, paid tribute to the club's followers after the 1971 FA Cup final defeat by proclaiming, "Chairman Mao has never seen the greatest show of red strength", and last night the current generation of fans aimed to revive this spirit.

Manager Rafael Benitez been under intense pressure from the media and a small section of the club's support to be sacked following a disappointing series of results this season, the most recent being last week's humiliating FA Cup exit to Championship outfit Reading.

However the club's world-famous support helped fire the team to a 2-0 victory over Harry Redknapp's side with a strong show of loyalty and support for the players inside and outside of Anfield.

Approximately 200 passionate fans lined the pavements of Anfield Road just after 6pm with a vast array of flags and banners, normally seen on the Kop before games, to provide vocal and visual backing as the Reds' team coach drove through the stadium's gates.

Shortly after the home team arrived, Tottenham's coach arrived and was given a vocally hostile welcome from the supporters who were still waving flags and in strong voice.

Kop season ticket holder Mark Lawless from Wavertree was one of the supporters lining the route and believes that the event was a little piece of Anfield folklore revisited.

He said: "In the 1970s and 80s, teams used to be scared of coming to Anfield.

"It wasn't just because of the aura around the place, it was more about the hostile reception the fans gave them.

"Although times have changed I'd like to think that we've recreated a little bit of that here tonight and hopefully the boys will go out and do the job.

"Tonight we all turned up and backed the team - that's the players and the manager. If people want him out then that's their opinion but sticking together is what this club does best and we need to do it now more than ever."

Paul Gardner from Kirkby was one of the fans forming the guard of honour with his flag and hoped that the gesture from the fans would act as a morale-boosting exercise for the players.

He said: "Basically tonight was just a show of support for the team and the manager. It just showed that we can get behind them.

"We're still behind the team 100% and we came down here tonight to show that we're behind the lads.

"We keep being told that our fans are the 12th man and tonight we're going to prove it.

"Hopefully it gave them that little boost and made them come off that coach feeling ten feet tall and hoping they went onto the pitch, firing on all cyliners to try and make a difference."

Liverpool ran out 2-0 winners thanks to a brace from Dirk Kuyt and, speaking after the game, Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp paid tribute to the support shown by the home fans throughout the match.

He said: "You come here to Anfield, you stand there and listen to that crowd, and it's the greatest sight in football."

Is Harry trying to line himself up for the Liverpool job in case Rafa leaves?

Fair play the atmosphere was brilliant apart from a quiet period halfway through the second half when the team was under a bit of pressure , Carra instigated a lot of that with the team hug before kick off and at the end of the first half when he went on his cameo run that forced a corner you could sense that the roof was nearly lifted off ,well in lads

I was sitting in the paddock last night below the Directors Box. The atmosphere was good but not anywhere like a decent European night. I thought I'd interrupted a funeral where I was sitting. The crowd around me only got vocal when they were shouting abuse at the Ref or Harry Redknapp. Around me, I was only one of a small handful that held their scarf up for YNWA and sang it.

And before anyone claims OOTs - most of them round me had scouse accents. It was a definite improvement on the usual morgue of a Saturday afternoon game - but only back to the level that I would expect from an Anfield crowd.

Respect to all who attended! This club seems to have something special, unity which pops up at the times when everyone else would be giving up.
