Will do, even if it goes in favour of Reina.

Don't get me wrong, I myself think Reina is a top keeper, just not as good as Given. I said the same when Cech came to the prem. Look at him now.

aye tho cech suffered a hell of a loss form, due to that injury.

I honestly, trying hard to not be clouded by bias, believe reina is certainly top 3 in the world and way ahead of given - that's not syaing i don't rate given - he is a good keeper. I just think reina is way ahead.

I do believe that casilla's plays a big part in reina being underrated - he is the 'golden boy' if you like in spain and with him playing for madrid, he will also be first choice over reina. - Had say casilla's gotten injured, and reina was given a long run as 1st choice - the non-believers would suddenly jizz in their pants.

On that note, I also think Casillas is way overrated. If he wasn't so "pretty", Reina would probably be Spain's no.1. Strange as it sounds, it's probably true. I probably watch more Spanish footy these days than premiership as it's the best league for my type of betting and Casillas is often all over the place. Could never understand how he was rated so highly.

Reina is the better of the two but anyone that doesn't believe Given is an excellent goalkeeper then they're badly mistaken.

He's one of the best and has been for about ten years now.

Not a single person in this thread has said they don't believe Given is excellent. Of course he is. He's very good but has weaknesses in his game. There's a good reason why he remained at Newcastle for so long. He's good but nowhere near Reina's class.

The poster LFC made a comment about the english style as opposed to the spanish style of keeper. It got me thinking about keeping over the years. I seem to remember growing up and the general consensus was that most of the worlds great keepers all came from the british isles.
First up in my time was Gordon Banks, then Pat Jennings (the abolute best in my biased opinion), Peter Shilton, our very own Ray Clemence and I'll even include Neville Southhall.
Now its all Schmeichel, Casillas, Reina Buffon etc.
I wonder was it the change in the back pass law that was the death knell for the great british line of keepers. The continentals with a greater emphasis in technique from an early age seem to have stollen a march on our keepers.
For me it's Reina's overall ball playing ability that separates him from Given as a better keeper. I also think Reina is the very best in the world with regards to playing the ball out quickly from hand or foot and setting up quick counter attacks. I also like his command of the box but I think Cassillas and Given are both better shot stoppers.

I don't see these weaknesses being exposed too often though.

Reina is in a different league to anyone at this present time but it's not as if he hasn't made blunders before, no keeper's perfect.

That's exactly it. Given is a very good keeper, but Reina is the definition of a world class keeper.
