If someone can switch off his support for a club like a tap he was quite simply never a supporter in the first place.
I didn't choose to be a Liverpool supporter. It was a combination of my dad's brainwashing and constant exposure to favourable comments about the club while Everton were always bad-mouthed. By the time I was 5 years old I was totally hooked without really realising it (I've used the same continuous slow drip brainwashing technique successfully on my 27-year old daughter, born and raised in Surrey, now a totally committed Liverpool fan!)
Now no matter how pissed off I may get with any given situation at the club I could never just stop being a supporter no matter what happened. It's in my DNA, as it is with any true fan.
