Interesting thread and some good points , Going on Captaincy what is the thoughts of poeple on here , Does a good captain get picked for his captaincy or for his football?.
Think about it . Gerrard of last year would get picked for his football first because of his form with Torres and captaincy second , On Tuesday we saw a reversal of that , He is out of form for whatever reason and imediatley got picked when deemed fit at the expense of Aquilani who IMO played very well against Spurs, Take Carra on the other hand he is also not in good form ( and on tuesday looked woefull , again jumping into Skrtyl and allowing Doyle to shoot over) but he took the captaincy well against Spurs and it seemed to have lifted a lot of other players and the crowd , But on current form the center pairing should be Agger and the Greek
So basicaly do we pick Gerrard because he is available and club captain and has a good reputation at winning games alone or do we pick Carra because he his a better captain at lifting the team .
a side note on my Point, Was Bobby Moore a better player than captain or both?,You Can Lead A Horse To Water , But A Pencil Must Be Lead!

I tend to run with the school of thought on player position and 9/10 that is generally a midfielder.Originally posted by andrewces38 View PostDoes a good captain get picked for his captaincy or for his football?.
Someone who can see things from the front and the back, Vieira, Keane, Lampard etc.
When they play well, the team normally does well.
It's the same in any walk of life, regarding a leader
Gerrard has certainly dragged this club out of the **** more than any captain of any club.
Maybe he's getting a bit pissed off with Rafa's tactics and decisions.

no, he has not. there's no doubt about his importance to the club but he is not a leader on the pitch and other captain's have done much more for their teams in terms of leadership when it really mattered.Originally posted by Shanks View PostI tend to run with the school of thought on player position and 9/10 that is generally a midfielder.

Ha! If Gareth Southgate and Glenn Roeder can talk the FA into postponing their coaching badges, I'm positive Gerrard would be alright for as long as he wants! Not that it'll ever happen like.
Stranger things have happened, look at Guardiola winning everything @ Barca - the last manager with that kind of record was me on Footy Manager 2005.
