Seriously, how good can this guy be. At 28 he's playing in the Belgian league.

End of the day Real Madrid and AC Milan have been trying to sign him, so he can't be that bad. I can't recall Europes' top teams trying to pip us to the signings of Degan and Voronin, so I would presume this guy is of a higher quality. Plus as 'ere'ere says above, have a read of some of Tomovich's comments in the other thread, he watches Jovanovic every week and has given a decent insight into what we can expect.Originally posted by vonk View PostSeriously, how good can this guy be. There are a few good youtube clips in the 'off field speculation' thread. Obviously you can't take them too seriously but he seemed to display decent pace, technique, dribbling skills, good finishing with a deadly left foot and most of all he seemed to have a winners mentality and is physically strong.
His goals to games ratio is pretty good and even though he's 28 he hasnt been overplayed as after spells at CSKA Moskow (i think) and Shaktar Donetsk where he didnt play much as a youngster he has only really played 5 full seasons. He's just broken into the Serbian national team scoring 9 in 18 games (i think).
I certainly think he'll be a step up form Voronin and im rather hopeful that he'll turn into a decent signing for us.'Religion is killing each other over who has the best imaginary friend'

We need to play 2 strikers up front, this guy could do well with Torres, strong aggressive player that shouldn't take to ground too easily.
See how it goes, can't say I have any expectations and when players get back from being injured we'll have a strong side anyway not to mention potential in Maxi/Jovanovic and potential from our already good players to have a good season
If we can remain 4th, get to 3rd or close enough to 3rd then I strongly believe next season will see our heads high looking for a 2nd place finish at least and it's more than possible providing we don't suffer with injuries like we have this season. Rafa has been looking good recently, and confident. Things are looking up and this signing is good news too.

On the flip side, Torres only scored 91 goals in 243 games for Atletico Madrid, so it just shows you never can tell...Originally posted by Taxi View PostKuyt scored that many in 101 games for Feyenoord in a better league. I'm not getting excited. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The irony is with the amount of games Ngog has played this year he should be better again next season, get in the gym and beef up a bit over the summer will help as well.
This guy has a 1 in 2 goal ratio for his country, Voronin, another 'international' striker brought in on a free didn't, and doesn't, and never will. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

and sadly out of that list liverpool are the only ones not to have won there own domestic league anytime in the last 10 yearsOriginally posted by Norbert Dentressangle View PostWhat's our domestic league got to do with being the top European team? No correlation whatsoever. Spain, Italy and England have dominated the CL for a decade yet can only boast one league champion each year. By your reckoning the best teams in Europe must include Dynamo Kiev and Levski Sofia as they've constantly won their domestic league, no? We'd walk almost all the leagues in europe bar perhaps only Spain, and obviously England
Having just looked up some stats, HALF of the last 10 champions league winners have won it after not having won their league the season before.
2009 Barcelona no
2008 scum yes
2007 AC Milan no
2006 Barcelona yes
2005 Liverpool no
2004 Porto yes
2003 AC Milan no
2002 Real Madrid yes
2001 Bayern Munich yes
2000 Real Madrid no

Dunno what all the excitement's about. Smacks of no money and desperation to me. This is the future for our club, and the only people who are actually trying to change anything (SOS) are being treated with derision by most on here. Free transfers are what we're now relying on FFS. When is everyone gonna wake up? This is a joke. He's 28 and plays for the mighty Standard Leige. Where's he been for the last 10 years?I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.
