Liverpool kick-off their Europa League challenge by taking on Unirea Urziceni in the first leg of the last 32 tie at Anfield.

The Romanians may be something of an unknown quantity, though, like the Reds, they enter into the competition having dropped out of the Champions League group stage.

Unirea finished third in Group G, having tallied a respectable eight points from a pool that also contained Rangers, Stuttgart and Seville.

Indeed, their last trip to Britain in October saw them record a stunning 4-1 victory at Ibrox over Rangers, and Liverpool know they'll pose a stern test

stick out the youngsters. couldnt care less if its silverware or not. its an embarrasment of a comp to be involved in. pacheco, darby etc.... along with fringe players to play i reckon.

Let's be sensible about this, no it's not the CL but it's still a trophy we can potentially win and seeing as we appear further away from winning the PL and the CL can we afford to be snobbish and picky?? I don't think so.

I say play a strong side Thursday (nothing to do with me going to watch obviously!) then rest players for the return leg.
Playing Thursday/Sunday is no different to playing Wed/Sat so the gap between games is something they should be used to.
I would like to see us pick -
Reina
Kelly Skrtel/Agger/Kyriakos (2 from those 3) Aurelio
Lucus or Mascher Gerrard
Kuyt Aquilani Reira/Babel
Ngog

That should be more than enough to get the tie won in the first leg, hopefully see Pacheco for 30 mins then if we've got the right result field a weaker side away with strength on the bench in case we look like ****ing it up.

Not too dis-similar.
Not sure about Aqua and Spearing together in the middle though.
I'd defo like to see babel and pacheco paired up front. Ngog has had a fair run and done ok but not scored many so time to try something different IMO.

I hope Stevie's on the bench and only brought on if needed. Aqua to do the job hopefully Don't agree with the lone striker bit either. Showing them too much respect IMO.

We go to City just 3 days later, in one of our most crucial games of the season. Risking any important players for the europa tinpot, would be lunacy.

As for Unirea, they smashed Rangers and also beat Sevilla. They missed out on qualifying for the knockout phase of the CL by 1 point.

They're certainly not mugs and anyone expecting us to just smash them with our eyes closed, might be in for a surprise.
