Tommy Mooney on Soccer AM - Spain comments

Thought this was really interesting, basically said that he hated playing in spain and stopped after 6 months. The reason was that he said in Spain they try not lose games, whereas he spent 20 years in England trying to win them.

Explains a hell of a lot about Rafa's Defensive mid mentality......

That explains why Barcelona are the best team in the world and Spain are current European champions and soon to be world champions. I'm glad english managers are not like that

      Assuming Mooney is correct ?

So are ALL spanish managers negative ? I think it's a bit of a sweeping statement to say "in spain they try not to lose games", tell that to Madrid, who have rarely counted defense as a priority.

Think you'll find that Rafa's ideology in terms of football is not based around Spanish football but Italian. He studied and regards the AC Milan team of 1989 as the best and the benchmark.

Mooney is full of **** - watch Spanish football and you'll see they go out to win games. Why are they breeding so many flair players in Spain yet here in England we're breeding physically strong players who have no skill? It's flair players who win games and physically strong players that defend well. How many times in England do you see teams but 10 behind the ball - virtually every week if your playing a team outside the top 6. In La Liga, it doesn't happen that often at all.

So many teams come to Anfield playing for a win don't they?

Laughable thing for Mooney to say - he probably found that he was just too ****e technically to play in Spain and uses that as an excuse.

Tommy Mooney played for Watford right and scored the winning goal for one of their win against us if my memory is right?

Ha ha, so basically he's a cunt and is taking a indirect swipe at Rafa

It's amazing how clueless people are about football even though the've played football professionally. That's like me saying I work I work in IT but don't know anything about the IT Systems.

Lock and delete the thread. It's a waste of server space.

Exactly he probably has a typical English mentality - preferring physical strength over skill. In Spain, football is played how it should be. In England it's bang bang hoof long ball **** it I'll take a one nil

Who did Mooney play for? Maybe he was in a crap team that played that way to stay in the league.

It depends on the team you play for, as has been said the majority of teams who come to Anfield and set up to play 10 men behind the ball, and frustrate and play for a 0-0, if they get a goal on the break that's a bonus.

Mooney has taken his six months experience in Spain at one club and probably under just one manager and turns that into a broad generalisation

According to Wikipedia, he started out at Villa but never played for them then played for:

Scarborough, Southend, Watford, Birmingham, Stoke, Sheffield Utd, Derby, Swindon, Oxford, Wycombe, Walsall, Marbella

That probably explains why Liverpool were easily top Premier League scorers last season and scored more goals than any team in Europe the season before
