Nah, Rafa can do wrong. There's been good signings and bad ones and he's played a part in all of those.Originally posted by Rigadon View PostNo. It was the same guy who bought Pennant and Keane for almost £30m. Or was that Rick Parry? I get confused. If they were good signings – it was Rafa. If they were poor signings - it was Rick. I think that’s how it works.
How we could do with the likes of Alonso. Now, was that Rick’s decision to sell him?
It's just interesting how credit is given to Houllier when it's Rafa slagging time. Does anyone believe for a minute we'd have won in 05 if Houllier was in charge.

How's this for a fight then.
In the summer if no new investment is found sell Torres and Gerrard to free up resources to improve our general squad. We can't afford to employ world class players, so let's cut our cloth accordingly.

I'll bite, for £130m you could replace both the 'ageing' Gerrard and 'injury prone' Torres plus have money left over for more.Originally posted by Rich View PostHow's this for a fight then.

Eg
David Villa - £35m

No, this money should be put towards building our new stadium, not squad rebuilding. We've got a good enough squad to challenge for the league next season, Aquilani will be even better, so too will be Maxi. Add to that list the young Ngog and the potentially world class Pacheco.Originally posted by Imy View PostI'll bite, for £130m you could replace both the 'ageing' Gerrard and 'injury prone' Torres plus have money left over for more.

New stadium sorted and a team fit to challenge for the league.

Gerrard is less effective in that role without Torres in front of him, and Alonso (or someone) dictating the game from behind him.Originally posted by Reece View Post
He is using him in the same way as he did last season, when he had his most fruitful season ever. Were you complaining then? The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I just wish Benitez would be a bit more adventurous. Nothing wrong with winning games...Originally posted by Redspin View PostI like the look of that Benitez bloke. Has won titles abroad and several European trophies. He's also got a track record of doing well when working under tight financial constraints, which is where we find ourselves right now. Certainly looks like the kind of manager we could do with as no other manager would want to work within similar constraints as well as the ownership uncertainty surrounding the club. Unfortunately I don't think he'd be daft enough to take the job as he can't possibly win and would be under constant sniping and pressureReally?

Rafa doesn't play defensive football, that's a myth, a total and ridiculous myth. That same team scored more goals than any other team in the league last season, which destroys your argument.Originally posted by Tatterdemalion View PostSo? go back far enough and plenty of teams won plenty of things playing 5 up front..
We're not at our best, which explains our toothless kind of performances of late. Let's not have that argument anymore will you, it's just annoying to hear the same myth over and over again when it's been demystified so many times.

I didn't say he played defensive football did I? I said I wished he'd be more adventurous - not the same thing (and hardly an argument to be refuted!)Originally posted by PeteBest View PostRafa doesn't play defensive football, that's a myth, a total and ridiculous myth. were on about this season....why aren't we at our best the damn season is nearly over ......i'll tell you why the players are fed up playing for the manager hence the lack of passion and commitment....oh and while were at it can you tell me why the estemmed manager cannot get the players to pass and move or even simply pass a ballOriginally posted by PeteBest View PostRafa doesn't play defensive football, that's a myth, a total and ridiculous myth.
