Aurelio out for 3 weeks

Liverpool defender Fabio Aurelio will miss up to three weeks with the thigh injury picked up during Sunday's 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers.

The 30-year-old Brazilian's season has been blighted by injury since rupturing knee ligaments during a summer holiday.

He has started only eight Premier League games all campaign and the latest setback has come as a blow to Reds boss Rafael Benitez.

"It's not good news and we think he is going to be out for maybe another two or three weeks," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"Fabio has had really bad luck. It all began at the start of the season when he suffered the injury during the summer with his family and it's like there has been something every month since then.

"It is a shame because he is a top footballer and a really nice person but him being out leaves us with a problem because we wanted to play him, so we could give (Emiliano) Insua a rest.

"Emiliano is a good young player and has benefited from being involved in so many games but he has been playing a lot recently.

"We needed Fabio so he could help the team and also help Insua. His injury is bad news for both of them."

it's a shame - but he had injury problems before we signed him - gutted dossena didn't work out, cause we are cash strapped, have other areas that need looking at, and now we really need too find a first choice left back with insua as back up cover/rotation/competition.

if we had that and aurelio accepted a pay as you play deal great, no issue having 3 there. If he doesn't accept it **** him. he is a passenger we can't afford to carry

no one would pay for him though - he will go on a free, probably to a spanish side and sadly disappear - all it would do is free up wages, and if he was on a pay as you play, well it wouldn't bother me as he would only play when fit it's cost us about £30k a season
