First choice midfield...

Based on current formation i.e 4-4-1-1, who would you most like to see line up?

My current four at Anfield would be Babel (right), Aquilani, Mascherano, Yossi (left). For tougher away games, Lucas in for Aquilani perhaps.

I cant honestly say that i've seen enough from Aquilani to justify putting him in ahead of Lucas Leiva.

I admit I'm being hard on Lucas but it's based on playing smaller teams and that Aquilani has far more to offer than he's shown already.

I guess my choice is based on wanting to sacrifice a bit of work ethic for some added style in the centre. It's not meant in any way to be a slight on Lucas because the lad has improved a lot and has a lot of character.

i'd be more inclined to maybe go 4-4-2 against the so called lesser teams at home with something like maxi, gerrard mascher and yossi and kuyt and torres up front - tougher games something like mascher lucas kuyt and yossi with gerrard in behind torres.

Aquilani, sadly is nowhere near featuring.

Yep it's based on sentiment but he'll only hit form by playing games.

Right, assuming that the 1-1 will be Gerrard and Torres, if I had to play a midfield for the rest of the season it would currently be:


Benayoun-Masch-Lucas-Kuyt

...leaving Maxi, Babel, Riera and Aquilani as options to come off the bench which is quite a nice pool of players.

but then havent we seen all season that Masher and Lucas is just not a viable midfield solution?


Your right aquiliani has offered **** all and without going over old ground Lucas has done well this season but its just an awful midfield pairing.

I would have been tempted to put Gerrard in Centre mid but with torres back hoopefully them 2 can get us motoring again with both up top.

Benayoun Mascherano Gerrard Kuyt would be my midfield. Time for Stevie to settle into a middle of the pitch role imo.

I think we need to start moving away from both Masch and Lucas in the middle all the time, use only one with Gerrard or Aquilani.
