The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Well I can't speak for anyone else, but I know that Flores followed in the footsteps of one of his predecessors at Valencia, Rafael Benítez, by taking charge of the Real Madrid youth teams. After winning plaudits during his time there, he was approached about the manager's job at newly-promoted club Getafe CF, also in Madrid.

After an impressive 2004–05 season with Getafe, which managed to finish a respectable 13th place, Flores was given the opportunity to coach former club Valencia, succeeding Rafael Benitez. In his first season, he guided the club to third place in La Liga, which qualified the club for the 2006–07 UEFA Champions League, where Valencia reached the quarter-finals, in which they were knocked out by Chelsea. In May 2007, the club guaranteed a top-four league finish, and consequently a place in the next Champions League.

On October 29, 2007, the Valencia board of directors fired Flores after a string of average results with poor performances. He was appointed as manager of Sport Lisboa e Benfica on May 24, 2008.

On 8 June 2009, Flores left Benfica through contractual termination, after a third place in the league and winning the domestic league cup. On 23 October, he was appointed at Atlético Madrid, following the sacking of Abel Resino. He signed a contract until 30 June 2010.

At the end of the 2009–10 campaign, Flores led Atlético to the 9th position in the domestic competition, but also to two finals: the UEFA Europa League against Fulham (2–1 win) and the Spanish Cup, lost to Sevilla FC.

Hope that clears it up mate

thanks, his resume does not stick out as world class. Someone who's been hired and fired done good with medicore budgets at clubs hugely in debt..that sounds like us... :weep:

clears it up, but dosent convince me, im all for someone who knows what liverpool football club is all about not a cv specialist who will eventually want the job of a top of club of his birth, go british or better still go liverpool.

                          No British manager good enough.
how do you know unless one gets given a decent job?

****ing snobbery going on here. Personally I've had my fill of foreign managers and long for a british one just for a change of mentality. If money is going to remain tight then we should be looking at managers that do a good job on limited budgets and limited players. If they are exceeding expectations at their current clubs then there's a good chance that working with better players (which we definately have) will mean they'll get even better results.

If we were loaded I'd probably take a top foreign manager, but it appears we're not.

Owen Coyle in 12 months will be an interesting one. A top 10 finish and decent football and he should/will be in demand. I like this man a lot.

If Kenny feels up to it both mentally and physically I take him in a heartbeat. Instant support of the fans and media. Instant respect of the players both past and present. 12 months and pass over to Carra to take the reigns.

Definitely not Quique, he's the post Ranieri Valencia manager, ex Benfica and current Atleti manager. Even though he did win the Europa League and get them into the final of the Copa del Rey it doesn't change the fact that he has made some terrible errors and was ****house in the league.

He is stubborn and once he has his mind set on something he'll never change it. When Valencia signed Mata he said he wasn't mature enough for first team football, under Koeman, Mata was given a chance and flourished. At Benfica he forced David Luiz, a player whom imo will become one of the best centr backs around to play at left back, where he is significantly worse (see the second leg of our europa league game against SLB). Just little things like that, he'll always pick veterans over younger players even if the veterans have really turned to ****. i.e. David Albelda. His tactics are often cynical and rely on one or two creative players to carry the entire team. Think Villa, Kun/Forlan, Reyes/Aimar. When these players weren't in good form, or weren't available his teams turn to custard.

Think everyones pet hates with Rafa and multiply them 10 times. That would be Quique, and he's a less talented manager that is renounced for making enemies wherever he goes. If we were going for a lower profile Spanish coach, as I mentioned in the other thread I'd jump at Ernesto Valverde.

Regardless I voted for Ottmar Hitzfeld. Although, I don't think he's really a realistic option.
