My number 1 choice. His teams play good attacking football as well. If the players we have were won over by his ideas, we really could be a good team again. He does tend to fall out with the media though, which can make it difficult for him at times.

Van Gaal has one year left on his contract. Wouldn't cost us a great deal. They want to tie him down with a new long term deal, so he has options I guess.

Sven is not the worst manager in the world, I think he'd do a decent job in the short term. I'd rather we got others in, but I wouldn't be throwing my toys out the pram if we got him in.

New Turkey boss Guus Hiddink is unlikely to become Liverpool's next manager, according to the Dutchman's agent, Cees van Nieuwenhuizen.

Liverpool are searching for a new boss after Rafael Benitez's exit on Thursday with former boss Kenny Dalglish charged with finding his replacement.

"Guus has shown over the years that he is loyal to agreements that he signed," van Nieuwenhuizen told BBC Sport.

"There is no reason today why he would change such behaviour."

I agree. I want others in ahead of him. But he is not the worst option out there.

I'd be pleased with Redknapp although he's not my first choice. I don't see what everyone's problem is with him.

He's a decent enough guy who gets the respect of the players, he knows this league better than anyone and what a challenge it would be for him to turn us around.....absoloutly massive.

Whether he would come here or not is a different matter as he's worked hard to get Spurs in the CL so he may not want to desert them.

This really would be a final chance for him though to manage one of the worlds greatest teams.

As for who would be my main choice I'd have to re-iterate that it would be Moyes. He is a brilliant manager who commands respect, his Everton team are hard working and also play some decent stuff and above all he takes no **** off anyone.

I feel he'll become the scum's manager pretty soon if we don't get in there first. At the end of the day who ever come's in I will support fully and they will have my complete backing.

I don't think he does have a lack of talent. He's done well at Villa, the only thing they haven't got is a proven match winner like Gerrard or Torres and how easy is it to get one of those let alone two?

You don't seriously buy into the notion that given a squad containing Torres he'd play Heskey or Carew instead? Maybe one of those type players up top with Torres would benefit Torres.

O'Neill is a very good manager. I can see why he winds some up and his Forest past isn't helpful, but the guy inspires players. If he can get another 25% out of the likes of Babel, Reira or Lucas then why not?

I can't for the life of me understand anyone calling for another foreign manager with no premiership experience. That could be the final nail in the coffin. If people can't see this then I just picture Rafa weeping into his morning coffe with a suitcase full of euro's and smile. Thank the lord Rafa has left.

Former England and Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has admitted to being a life-long Liverpool fan and that he wants to manage the Premier League club.

The Spaniard left Liverpool after reportedly agreeing a compensation package worth up to £6 million. And Eriksson hopes to be in contention to take over at Liverpool once his short stint in charge of the Ivory Coast comes to an end at the World Cup in South Africa.

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has emerged as the leading contender to succeed Benítez with Guus Hiddink, Manuel Pellegrini, Louis van Gaal and Frank Rijkaard also on the radar.

I would really much rather see a British manager at the club now as they know the league's better and the history of the club better than a foreigner.

Again I wouldn't be unhappy with MON as he is a passionate man and he would get a lot out of the players and I feel passion and belief is something we're lacking massively at the present time.

O'Neill would give the place an instant lift. I just wonder if the negative response from a lot of fans towards him would count against him if we had a few **** results. mind you perhaps not, the majority seem to think 19 bad results is more than acceptable.

But equally you could say all the British based candidates don't have experience dealing with the pressures and expectations of big clubs and big name players and their egos... Also there is no British based manager with a reputation or profile that would want players to come and play for him.

Either way it's a compromise
