IDK if not managing a big club makes him a bad manager. To be able to manage a big club he needs the first opportunity... if all big clubs did this then we would run out of coaches with big club experience. He has done as well as an manager could possibly do with a Fulham side so why doesnt he have the ability to get the most out of our side?

Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot"
That was Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell, a song in which Joni complains they 'Paved paradise to put up a parking lot', a measure which actually would have alleviated traffic congestion on the outskirts of paradise, something which Joni singularly fails to point out, perhaps because it doesn't quite fit in with her blinkered view of the world. Nevertheless, nice song.

Roy will be a safe choice but personally I'm completely uninspired by his possible appointment. Even Kenny I think would be a safe choice. I think they would both get us into the top four but not further than that. I think I'd rather take a huge risk with a young manager. It could turn out to be a disaster or it could turn out to be amazing. Whatever it would certainly be a far more interesting ride that a safe pair of hands. Bilic was a great shout from someone, how about Di Matteo or Zola or as someone else mentioned Martinez. Any other young managers to think about?

Last season was bad, but I still maintain it was a blip. I think with the squad we currently have it would be unlikely that we'd do so badly again. From that point of view whoever comes in should "improve" on the finish of 7th last year (assuming we don't suffer too manay major losses). But as I consider last season a blip if we were to finish 6th next year that wouldn't be an improvement!Originally posted by red g View Posti think it would be difficult not to do as good as rafa's last year, no matter who came in....nt saying that Rafa would have done the same this season mind. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think this is very much a short term appointment, someone to fill the gap until the club is sold. Hodgson is in his 60's now, so is experienced and this is probably his last shot at a big job, I think from his point of view he has nothing to lose. He doesn't have to worry about how a lack of funds or a poor spell will affect his reputation as much as a younger manager would. While the club can play the steady the ship card with an experienced manager.Originally posted by SteveMac View PostRoy will be a safe choice but personally I'm completely uninspired by his possible appointment. I think he's a decent manager and will back him 100% if he is appointed, but at the moment I feel underwhelmed at the prospect. How's the perspective of being homeless mate?Originally posted by cream View PostLiverpool will make a formal approach for Roy Hodgson to become their new manager within the next 48 hours.
The Fulham boss is the clear front-runner from a short list drawn up by Kop legend Kenny Dalglish and MD Christian Purslow, to be presented to the Anfield board this week.
The club's directors are certain to give the green light to make Hodgson their official target within the next two days, and approach his London club with an offer of compensation to make him the next Liverpool manager.
Former Inter Milan boss Hodgson has a one-year rolling contract with the Craven Cottage outfit, negotiated at the start of the just completed season. Crucially, it contains a clause which allows him to leave to join a top club for a compensation figure of around £2.5million.
The experienced coach has maintained a diplomatic silence over Liverpool interest in recent days, but he has made clear his desire to have one last opportunity with one of the Premier League's leading clubs.
Dalglish and Purslow have pinpointed six key qualities they require in their choice to succeed Rafa Benitez, and Hodgson is the candidate who ticks all the boxes.
His massive experience in Europe and extensive contacts within UEFA aligned to his winning record and diplomatic skills make him an attractive choice in a time of deep uncertainty at Anfield, as the club's American owners insufferably draw out the plan to sell their holding.
The other leading candidate on the short-list is Bayern Munich's Louis Van Gaal, but both Dalglish and Purslow recognise the difficulty in prising him away from the German champions, and Hodgson will be their first port of call.
No timescale has been set on the process of replacing Benitez, but sources within the club suggest that an appointment is imminent with the new man destined to be in place before the end of the month.
Hodgson has a contract to work for the BBC as pundit during the World Cup in South Africa, but he will be happy to break off from commentating to conclude any negotiations with the Anfield board, and will be in position to identify potential transfer targets.
Fulham want to keep their manager after he steered them to the UEFA Cup final in May, but Liverpool will not try to haggle and will meet the compensation figure in Hodgson's contract, meaning the London club will have no option but to allow him to leave.
The payment to Fulham will not prove too much of a barrier for Liverpool, not least because they are about to receive a similar level of compensation from Inter Milan for the Anfield backroom staff who are set to join Benitez in Italy.
He has negotiated to take several of his trusted lieutenants with him, including his Reds first team coach Mauricio Pellegrino, fitness coach Paco de Miguel and keeper coach Xavi Valero.

How does this make us any different from them?Originally posted by Darkon View PostMy gut feeling is to be dissapointed if Hodgson is appointed as our new manager
I would really like to think that we could attract a bigger name in football than him. Considering he is in his 60's and never managed a top-club (inter aside perhaps but not in their winning days). If we where to get a manager with his record I'd rather it be a younger more promising manager that could be built upon.
I don't see the problem with Hodgson being brought in, he'd steady the ship and personally i think he'd do a good job. How does everyone feel about Hodgson being brought in as Manager with Kenny as his assistant? We managed to rectify it, though, because it now says, "Cook" where it once said "Cock", and "Pass" where it once said "Piss", so it’s slightly less rude.

I though I'd be fine with Roy but now I'm not so sure, infact I think I'm warming to the idea of Kenny coming back. Who cares if there's 15 years since he last managed a club. He has probably been following the game quite a bit and I think he would step a side in a year or two if the opportunity rises for a new coach. He might even convince Gerrard and Torres to stay, I mean who doesnt want to play for Dalglish?
* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

not saying it's any different from us, just saying that the only time he has managed a top-club he has achieved nothing with them whatsoever, so don't see what he will bring to us.Originally posted by Gaz View PostHow does this make us any different from them?

He is in his 60's and never managed anything noteworthy in the premier league, and only has some 3-4 years of total premier league experience for an english manger that is not much.
What he did with Fulham in the Euro League was impressive, but aside from that he has pretty much achieved what can be expected from a Fulham manager hasn't he?
Just can't get excited about the idea of appointing Hodgson even if he is hyped in the media...

I agree would much rather see Kenny back than woy, after all the talk in the media lately it just seems to be the best choice if we can't get one of the top managers out there today.Originally posted by The_weatherman View Post

His Utd ties are one thing, but I'm more against him because he's a ****ing useless manager and light years from the kind of manager a club like Liverpool should have.Originally posted by ValueFinder View PostAnyone fancy Mark Hughes or are you too childish to look past his UTD ties?
I also choose not to look past his Man U ties for what it's worth. Makes him a complete non-starter, apart from being total **** at the job
