I'm afraid he'll try but will ultimately fail. This appointment does not signify our intentions as a team which will be challenging, it signifies that we're settling for 'damage limitation'. Hodgson has no past credentials which presupposes that he can win anything - he's a total rookie in that sense.

It's clearly a downgrade on what we had.

the thing about Hodgson for me is it's ok to get the best out of mediocre players and punching well above your weight but it's a whole different game dealing with top players (or even better players) and I use fat sam as an example, he worked wonders at bolton but then failed abysmally with only slightly better players at newcastle, I don't want us falling further than we already have

for fat sam you could use oneill as another example, although admittedly he hasn't failed massively but I think he's shown he can't manage as well as people had hoped

I personally think that Hodgson is ideally suited to international football management and should hold out for the England job

        Spot on.

That pretty much sums up my personal reservations (along with his probable inability to keep our key players and attract top signings if budget is available) with Woy's appointment. I for one will support all and every LFC manager but imo he will not be able to deliver on our top-4 expectations.

You've completley contradicted yourself there. You say one minute that he can't handle dealing with top players and then the next you say that he would be better off being the England boss.

So he's not dealing with top players there then no?

It seems Lippi will be available. Any thougths? Speculation obviously but still..

It's All My Fault - Italy Coach Marcello Lippi

Italy have tumbled out of the World Cup and coach Marcello Lippi could not explain the disastrous 3-2 loss to Slovakia, leaving them bottom of Group F, and on the early flight home, but he took complete responsibility for the exit.

Antonio Di Natale and Fabio Quagliarella gave the Italians a source of hope after goals from Robert Vittek and Kamil Kopunek had dampened spirits.

And Lippi was left stunned, angry and less than satisfied with la Nazionale's performance. But he blames himself for all the failures.

"Right, ok, I take all responsibility, no excuses. If a team turns up to such an important tournament with terror in their heads, hearts and mind and they fail to express themseleves, then it means that the coach didn't prepare it well," he told the press.

"I am sorry for the fans, the FIGC and everyone. I thought this team would do well, but I have not prepared them well. I expected everything, but not this and the way we played.

"I am sorry that I am closing my job like this. I expected everything, not this.

"I take all responsibility. The choices, the way I presented this team in the last three matches.

"Good luck to my successor and thanks to everyone for the last four years."

He'd be giving the players too much Lippi on the training field.

He also said that he wants a break from football for a few months too.

Someone said above that Fulham do not play attractive football, but actually I think that is a myth. I have a lot of Fulham over the last few seasons and he has coached a reasonably average set of players to be very tight at the back, whilst still allowing the full backs to come forward (something Rafa couldn't do this season when, finally, he had his two flying full backs), a midfield that supports the defence without needing two defensive midfielders but still cycles the ball forward to the offensive players quickly but without resorting to the long ball, and an offensive system based around a single striker that allows other players to get into the penalty area in support of that striker. And, when a first teamer is injured the reserves fit in without a loss of shape or impetus (again something Rafa seemed not to be able to do). All of that will be an improvement on last season.

Also, however awful the owners are I do not want my manager coming across as a bit of an idiot at press conferences (so another advantage of Hodgson over Rafa).

Blackburn was a team that was eating itself alive, and I doubt that any manager could have succeeded in that climate.

And, he didn't actually relegate Blackburn did he? Fair enough, he got sacked, but plenty do

If you of all people find the term Lord Rafa insulting we may as well all give up.

Roy Hodgson has always seemd to me to be a very sensible person and a good football manager.

However I wonder how many clubs, given the choice, would take Roy Hodgson over Rafa. I honestly can't believe many would. I would like to hear why LFC think he's a better choice.

I want to support him if he becomes manager but I think it will be hard, much much harder than at any time in the 40 odd years I've supported LFC.

The club will think he is better because he wont play politics like rafa did.

i am a huge fan of rafa but in a company and that company being LFC at the moment he was a nightmare to manage. We all know the rights and wrongs of this but from the club as an organisations perspective maybe woy will be a calming influence.

For me Rafa is one of the best few managers in the world and woy and i want Rafa as our manager but it is possible woy is the right man for the circumstances.

this isnt me saying I am happy or condone the circumstances quite the opposite however they are the things as they stand.

By "a nightmare to manage" do you mean he wouldn't just do what he was told if he didn't think it was in the best interests of the club?

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
