    From Sunday Express...............

Roy Hodgson will be appointed Liverpool’s new boss in time to welcome some of the players back for pre-season training on Friday.

It is believed the majority of Liverpool’s senior players are happy with Hodgson’s impending arrival, but they won’t be back at Anfield until the end of July following a break after the World Cup.

While managing director Christian Purslow has been concentrating on finding Rafa Benitez’s successor, chairman Martin Broughton has been focused on attracting buyers to take over from George Gillett and Tom Hicks.

One of Broughton’s tasks has been to knock down Hicks’ claims that the Americans were looking for £800million.

He has been in advanced talks with parties in the Middle East, including Dubai International Capital, and believes a deal could be done for £500m.

It was why I was so annoyed at Rafa. Coming out and saying we need 5-6 players to be competitive is a joke, especially when he knew we did not have a pot to piss in, never mind fund the purchases for 5 ****ing players.

People at the top of the club should always pretend things are better than they are. No one wants to hear we are mid table at best and have no hope of improving. We all know it, we don't need to be told it.
I understand and appreciate that but sometimes slience is the better part of valour - something that the owners and Purslow should heed well

The thing is Purslow and the owners love using PR to spin things to their own ends but in all the time they have been here I cant think of one time when this has actually worked

      Eventually it has been exposed

Purslow and the owners should both stick to their own field - LBO's because they certainly are failing massively in the field of running a football club

As for a measure of the man you only have to go and look on another forum where his "legal people" have threatened court action if certain information & discussions about him didnt decease

I mean WTF is an LFC executive doing trawling football fan forums

Roy Hodgson will only become the new Liverpool manager once he has received pledges from the Anfield hierarchy for an adequate transfer fund.Good luck with that Roy

Hodgson is thought to be on the verge of agreeing a deal to join Liverpool, following a highly successful spell at Fulham, leading them to last season's Europa League final. The 62-year-old apparently fulfils all six criteria set out by Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow and Kenny Dalglish for Benitez's successor and the Anfield board has reportedly approved Hodgson's appointment.

Hodgson has maintained a dignified silence over the speculation that he will join Liverpool, although it is thought he would like to manage another big club before he retires.

However, the Daily Mirror reports this morning that Hodgson will only take over at Anfield if the club is able to supply him with sufficient funds to adequately strengthen his squad. Liverpool suffered a highly disappointing season last term and Hodgson is reportedly worried that the club, £400million in debt, will not be able to back him sufficiently in the transfer market. So there's another 1 down. Or maybe Roy will be happy with a 15 mil pound warchest

Who wouldn't want assurances that the owners would back you in this situation. He's on a hiding to nothing taking over IMO.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

You cannot fire Rafa Benitez because he talks back to you unless you have a way to make an improvement with a superior manager. Benitez has given more to the club than Purslow will ever give in his entire life, but he didn't like the backtalk and began a campaign in the press to unsettle Rafa and force him out.

Look, we did not set the world on fire on the pitch last year, fair enough. But if you're going to make a change, do it rationally, fairly, with a ****ing spine and for the betterment of the team. How is this situation we are in now superior to having Rafa in the press asking for money to buy players? It is far worse; we are a ****ing shambles and it is because Purslow couldn't suck it up and get Rafa on board with a reasonable plan to improve the team. Why? He doesn't have a plan to improve the team; name one thing Purslow has said or done that you feel has made THE TEAM ON THE PITCH better? Nothing; his ****ing £80 million pound kit sponsorship deal doesn't even cover our debt payments for **** sake.

So, we are now in a worse position than we've ever been in and it is because Purslow, Broughton and the cunt owners don't know how to properly manage a football club. They are dealmakers and, like all deal makers (and I've worked for plenty) they are enamored of the press, of the "perception" of the club over the actual value and reality of what is ACTUALLY HAPPENING. This is why I hate him, because he not only sells us the lie, he seems to believe it himself because he's gonna get paid. **** him.
in my eyes it was very reasonable to sack rafa - for two reasons:

              a) the owners didn't back him enough financially last summer to build on our excellent season. fair enough.
but he should've taken it on the chin. he should've gotten on with his job under however difficult the situation was.
instead he chose point his fingers on pretty much everyone but himself.
he allowed the situation to affect his players. he completely failed to get the best out of his players. we should've challenged for third with the current squad but finished an unacceptable 7th. yes we had loads of injuries but so had others who finished above us. that's no excuse.
he couldn't lift the players; he couldn't improve performances; he looked puzzled, yes even helpless at times. his frustration got the better of him.
so you see, you've got a manager who seems unable to cope in dire times. the sign of a great manager is that he gets the best out of what he's got.

              b) he started to fight his corner through the press from start to finish.
yes, you should always fight your corner. always. but you should to so in private meetings, not through the press. talking about dirty linen and all.
yes, the board turned us into a laughing stock. but make no mistake, rafa did contribute a fair share to that.
but the fact is, whoever you think is right or wrong in this mess we're in - no board will ever allow their manager to publicly undermine them. you don't speak out in public against your employers time and again, blame them for all that's gone wrong and expect to get away with it.
it's like players speaking out in the papers against their manager. everyone knows their time's up right there and then.
rafa certainly knew he had it coming.

The hypocrisy at our club is incredible and none of the upper management are doing ANYTHING in the best interest in the club, they are too busy pursuing their own self serving interests, massaging their owns egos or putting their own grubby little hands in the till at the expense of the club

There was a rumour the other week on a forum that Rafa asked for assurances IN WRITING regarding transfer policies (ie funds raised could be ploughed back into the playing squad) and that the board told him to do one and that their word should be enough

Rafa apparently said he was not prepared to take their word at face value after them pulling £15-20 million of his funding last summer

This is suppsedly why things came to a head and he was sacked

You can't blame Rafa for that as the wanks haven't been straight with anyone in their time in charge.

That's why I cant believe that Roy is going to join us. Forget the wanting to manage 1 more gig club, we are a big club in crisis. Wht the hell would anyone want to take over with the current owners in charge

i don't neccessarily agree with that.
i'm not talking about g+h but about purslow, ayre, nash and the others who really run the club.
they want things done the way they believe is right. just like rafa thought he knew how things should be done.
just because they've all got different ideas doesn't mean they don't care about the club.

look, i'm not defending anyone here because they're all to blame for this god awful mess we're in. none of them, including rafa, can walk away clean from this. they've hurled too much dirt on one another for that.
with all these infights you knew someone's head would roll.

everyone has smeared anyone else. purslow did it to rafa who did it to purslow who smeared sos and vice verca. it's ****ing mess and noone is innoncent.
