    FAO Aussies

    Friday 06:45am

    UEFA Europa League 2009/2010

Liverpool v Lille. Live to all centres on SBS ONE.

Hopefully a better showing for the return leg at home. Gotta win so we can have a laugh at Craig Foster. Wouldn't be surprised if he asked to show our match hoping that we'll get knocked out (the knobhead)

Fos**** definitely would have demanded our game be on. He hates Us/Rafa with a passion. He'll be sitting there praying we lose

The cunt loves Babel though Pretty much sums up Fos**** perfectly

Nothing would make me happier than seeing us blow Lille away and foster having to admit we are a class act. Wouldn't happen though

I don't think I've even sat through 30 seconds of their analysis all up.

            Half time, flick TV over.

            Full time, flick again.

Man invented remote controls so we didn't have to put up with knobheads

Just watched SBS sports news and he was almost complimentary towards us.

Its probably because he can see we're going to get almost stuff all from this season and since its been possibly our only good game of the season he can remove the stick from his arse and reach inside in search of a compliment before shoving the stick back in.

I'd give him a hand to shove it back in

                      Hogan's ghost

                      Presented by Kel Richards

A listener asks for the origin of the exclamation "Hogan's ghost!"..

The Australian National Dictionary tells me that "Hogan's ghost!" as an exclamation is recorded from 1930 - and adds that it's origin is "unexplained."
...Jonathan Green says it's used as a general expression of amazement and is Australian in origin.

The Australian National Dictionary tells me that "Hogan's ghost!" as an exclamation is recorded from 1930 - and adds that it's origin is "unexplained."

I do remember a parallel American expression: in the old Superman comics Perry White (editor of The Daily Planet) used to exclaim: "Great Caesar's ghost!" in moments of exasperation. And Australian author John O'Grady (in a 1977 book) sees the two expressions as interchangeable.

The Australian National Dictionary suggests that "Hogan's ghost!" might possibly be a euphemism for "Holy ghost!" - making it a softened blasphemy.

However, that doesn't explain the parallel with "Great Caesar's ghost!"

So I suggest that "Hogan's ghost!" might have been inspired by a Banjo Paterson bush ballad called "The Road to Hogan's Gap" - about a surprisingly dangerous place to travel to. Well, it's possible.

Hope that helps.Have you been watching Home and away?
