    RIP Charlie

    "Reds mourn former goalkeeper
    15th Mar 2010

Liverpool Football Club were today saddened to learn of the death of former goalkeeper Charlie Ashcroft at the age of 83.

Ashcroft made his debut for the Reds in 1946 and played in the title winning side of 1946-47.

He made 89 appearances for the Reds and famously saved a penalty from Tom Finney on the opening day of the 1952-53 campaign.

Everybody at Liverpool FC would like to offer their deepest condolences to Charlie's family and friends at this sad time."

As far as I can tell, he was my grandmother's uncle. I didn't realise how young he was or that even he was still alive.

I know he once got MOM in a game in which Billy Liddell got a hat-trick, which can't be bad.

    YNWA Charlie Ashcroft.

Forgot to mention, in tribute to my grandmother who died over 20 years before I was born (presumably why I never met many of that side of the family), my middle name is Ashcroft - this obviously caused endless amusement when it got read out at school...

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Hahaha i think peculiar middle names are great. I have a mate who's middle name is Scamander....something to do with ancient Scottish heritage. Sounds like a Bond villain

                      RIP - YNWA.

                      ---------

I only saw a bit of the first post when glancing it on the front page.

I thought it was Charles Itandje at first and was wondering why people were mourning.......
                      Forwards.......
