Aquilani will only justify his price tag when he plays like that on a regular basis. We could argue all day and night about why he hasn't done that just yet. The only thing we do know for sure is that he hasn't proved himself just yet to be £20m well spent.

      Hopefully in time he will.
My point was about how comfortable and confident he was. I realise it was only pompey but you can only beat whats infront of you and in my eyes he was outstanding

I agree. It was a positive game and your comment was just. Everyone agrees he was fantastic last night. And I'm sure no one on here takes the evidence of last night to guarantee he will be a future smash hit.

Let's put him down as outstanding against Pompey, as we did with Lucas against Newcastle, and see how it goes.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.tv down the tunnel afterwards, Aquilani said: "I feel really good because I've scored my first goal after a really long time. I'm also really happy because of the result - we needed that.

"The goal is even more special because I scored it in front of the Kop. I said when I arrived in Liverpool that I wanted to score in front of the Kop and that moment has arrived.

"I think I will find it hard to sleep tonight, especially as I've also played 90 minutes.

"I think I played well but I have to take it step by step. Today was a good day and now we look to the next game."

Bless him Really chuffed for the lad, he's had loads of criticism and none of it's his fault. Not his fault he was injured so long, not his fault that english football is hard to get used to and not his fault he cost €20m.

              His delight was heart warming.

The difference being, that Aquilani's only taken about 5 starts to produce that performance.

And plays a different role. Which people seem to completely ignore on top of the ignorant **** they put about his passing.

As for Kuyt and the **** about him on here, would like to point out how many vital goals he has gotten in big games and is the second highest scoring player in our team, can't let facts get in the way though can we.

I'm not Kuyts biggest fan. I'll tell you why.

Because he just slows our attacking play down. I like to see wide players capable of beating a man, especially when our team plays with only 1 forward and two DM's. Kuyt lacks vision, control, pace and a good range of passing. His finishing is good, and his tracking back and hard graft shown is immense.

If I was Bolton manager I'd pick Kuyt over the likes of a babel type player every time. Bolton come under the cosh and need to work hard and stay solid. They win by battling, not by quality play.

But we are not that type of team. We are Liverpool. A side who should be taking the game to others, not sitting back and getting hammered. As such we need players who can take the game to the opposition and open up tight defences.

I wouldn't say we will find many wingers who will score more than Kuyt. But i would say we would easily find a winger who in the long run would be more heavily involved in the build up to goals, be it by drawing two players to them (as Babel always does) despite being below par, or going on a dazzling run and beating two men with skill.

If we had more creativity elsewhere then I guess Kuyt would be fine. But we play a solid compact system and so need creativity in the wide areas. Just my opinion.

I would seriously look at selling Kuyt and bring in a more speedy, tricky winger.

You have to laugh at the brainless ****ers in here writing him off before last nights game though.

And all this, Why wasn't he playing ****e is tiresome.

Who ****ing signed him numb nuts?

Just because Rafa was being over cautious with him people think that Rafa bought him to sit on the bench lol.

Your wasting your time mate, people cant seem to fathom that Lucas offers something different then Aquiliani, you have to laugh.

Most of these same fans where writing Aquiliani off, and some even saying he should be sold.

Didnt we get Maxi for this reason?

I think Kuyt still has a lot to offer, however I think it could be time to move him on hes hitting 30 soon.

I still think he can do a great job for us but I dont see him figuring in as many games in the future, Maxi was fantastic last night.

If Kuyt stays he should play up front.
