Yes he should be sold...
... If Rafa wants to sell him.
He's been pretty sh1t this season as have a lot of people. a season to write off isnt the worst thing despite the promise with which we ended the last one.
he's just one of a series of issues which we'll have to just accept whilst we're crippled and rudderless from the top.
he's no great captain tho.

It would go some way to explaining it and he'd deserve our support and for us to cut him a bit of slack, but I'd still sell if we got a crazy money offer. He'll be thirty soon and anything over £25m for a thirty year old is too good to turn down.Originally posted by razortoddy View PostStrong rumour going round that he has split up with his wife. If so, explains a lot
If the personal stuff is true, and there's a lot of smoke, then who could blame him if he wanted to get out of here and bugger off to Madrid. Couldn't bear to see him playing for another English club and I'm sure he wouldn't.Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Yes he's had a poor season this season, I'd imagine he'd be the first to admit that, but there's no way we should sell him, that would be crazy.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

25m will get us nothing close to his talents no matter the age. He still has 3-4 seasons as a top player plus he is one of our very few cultural bearers left in the team.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostIt would go some way to explaining it and he'd deserve our support and for us to cut him a bit of slack, but I'd still sell if we got a crazy money offer. It would take double that for me to even consider selling him as it will be a loss in both leadership, heritage and talent. None of which can be replaced for 25m.

The Liverpool captain, for one, has failed to find his best form this season and his body language at times has suggested all is not well.
Against United he was a peripheral figure for long periods and in the latter stages, as Benitez threw on Alberto Aquilani and Yossi Benayoun in an attempt to salvage a point, he was moved around the pitch.
That, according to former team-mate and close friend Jamie Redknapp, will not have impressed the England international.
"Don't get me wrong, Steven Gerrard was not at his best again, but he's hardly being given the platform by his manager," Redknapp wrote in the Daily Mail. "I'm not sure if Stevie played in three, or was it four different positions against United.
"That's no way to treat your best players. Give him a platform, trust him with the role and watch him play. It's not as if he hasn't proved that before."_____________________________________

So people don't agree that accomodating him limits our options in how we set ourselves up? Is there any point buying Villa if we could, as we never play with 2 up front when he is fit?
I always thought he'd settle into being a topclass 'conventional' CM as he gets older and less energetic, but the evidence that he can play there is not compelling.Last edited by Kenneth; 22-03-10, 01:11 PM.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

In some ways I can see his point, but in other ways I can't help but think it's just a case of Redknapp using it as another stick to beat Rafa with, and is using his links with the club to add weight to his opinions.Originally posted by red g View PostThe Liverpool captain, for one, has failed to find his best form this season and his body language at times has suggested all is not well.

SG has not had a great season by his standards but then the entire team has under performed all season bar Reina who has been outstanding all season
Don't forget the court case earlier this season which I think will have been a major distraction.
He's dragged us along in the league many times in the past, a good WC and a new start next season he'll be back to his very best!

I've been thinking for a while about the issue of Gerrard's position, he is undoubtedly a fantastic player but his role in the team is and always has been unclearly defined. Do we build a system around Gerrard or do we develop a system and define Gerrards role within it? At the moment for me we are doing neither effectively. I think part of our problem over the last few years has been how we utilise players to get the best out of them and the team.Originally posted by Operation View PostSo people don't agree that accommadtong him limits our options in how we set ourselves up? We seem to have (or have had) a number of players who don't have such well defined positions and are moved about to play different roles, Gerrard, Benayoun, Babel, Kuyt at present, previously we've had the like of Berger, Smicer and Garcia...
I think we need to develop a system and sign players to fit it rather than moving players around trying to make square pegs fit in round holes. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
