McMahon lauds spirit

John McMahon has cited the fantastic team spirit in his Reserve team squad as the catalyst to their outstanding form this season which has seen them go 14 games unbeaten.
The Reserves take on Wigan Athletic at Prenton Park tonight in a game you can watch exclusively live online from 6.45pm, and they are hoping for more three points in the race for the Barclays Premier Reserve League North title.
Manchester United currently lead the way at the top but McMahon's side are only seven points behind with four games in hand, and a win against the Latics would reduce the defecit even further.
The squad are also eyeing a possible treble with the finals of the Liverpool Senior Cup against Skelmersdale and Lancashire Senior Cup to come.
"The team spirit is fantastic," McMahon told Liverpoolfc.tv.
"When you've got the right mentality and toughness these lads have got then it's really pleasing. If you are organised and together as a team then you have always got every chance of winning more games."
After continuing their winning momentum with a 1-0 win at Hull City on Tuesday night, McMahon's side must recover their fitness quickly against a Wigan side they beat 2-0 in the Lancashire Senior Cup semi-final last week.
The Latics are managed by Graham Barrow and former Liverpool and Everton defender Dave Watson, and McMahon is expecting a tough test for his team.
"It's going to be a tough game against a hard working and aggressive side," he added.
"They are very well organised and they gave us many problems in the cup game when we were fortunate on a couple of occasions not to concede a goal.
"They have got some good players with pace and they could field a strong side, so we know what to expect.
"The game at Hull on Tuesday took a lot out of the lads. The pitch wasn't the best and it was very heavy, but we will be ready for this game."
Meanwhile, Icelandic starlet Victor Palsson has also spoken about the desire in the team to try and win the title.
"It was a difficult game against Wigan last week because the pitch wasn't the best, so hopefully the pitch at Tranmere will suit our passing style more," Palsson said.
"We have a lot of confidence and we know they don't want to lose to us again, but we are concentrating on one game at a time. We know what we need to do and I think we can win the league."
McMahon will again be without Daniel Pacheco, who is away on international duty with Spain Under-19s, while David Amoo, Chris Mavinga and Gerardo Bruna miss the game through injury.
