Thanjk you.

I was looking at LFC's badge the other day and was curious as to why there's a thistle and a Scotish X inside an oval shape above where it says "you'll never walk alone" in the middle.
Does anyone know why?

Hello Matt,
I think you're spot on with that, the section at the top of the crest as you know is a distillation of the decoration on the Shankly gates, I designed a simplified version that would work on the crest and followed the elements that are on the gates so that is about as much authority I can have on the matter but if my memory serves me right and looking at it I'd say that's right.
Also I had a look on the forum and noticed your moniker, do you really have a tattoo of my Liver bird ? very impressed ! looks great, could you send me a jpeg of it ?
Thanks,
Peter
Ok, so that didn't help much but basically, it's from the Shankly Gates, and it's the Scottish flag and thistle in memory of him as a great Scott.
I had a feeling it may have been something to do with Bill Shankly, I was thinking it may have been some connection to Celtic as they also sing You'll Never Walk Alone.
Cheers.

Why would we associate ourselves with Celtic on that very flimsy basis? Teams in Germany and Holland also sing YNWA and no doubt in other countries too

Catholic population in Liveprool has been historically large relative to other cities (Irish migrants I guess). Another flimsy reason, I agree.
Anyway, I think our crest looks ****. Understand that it's nice to have the flames in the design, so I would probably keep them somehow, but the Shankly gates stuff looks messy, like a poncy hat. And the shape of the main badge, it looks like a cheap school badge.
