But Torres is the ultimate complete centre-forward. The only negative is his injury record and there's nothing he can do about that. He's a supreme finisher, pace in abundance, power, superb in the air, a great dribbler, strong on both sides and scores goals with both feet, links play well, has the strength to hold it up and take the knocks. There isn't a a weakness in his game and he's a class apart from Rooney or indeed any other centre forward in the world. Wouldn't even contemplate swapping him for anybody.

Notes Imy down as a secret Manc fanOriginally posted by Imy View PostIf Shrek played for us we'd be hyping him as the best in the world.
The fat ginger knacker has carried Utd, he's been by far the best player in the Premiership, not only does he score goals but he is also integral to the all round team play too. The fact that unlike Torres he doesn't go through spells of prolonged injury means he can be relied on much more.
Best players in the world:
1. Messi
2. Ronaldo
3. Rooney
Love Torres but he's not there yet, but i do think he'll be top scorer in the world cup our loss will be Spain's gain.

:bird: It's begruging praise,
Agree with Shaggy about Torres he is the ultimate foward (Rooney is also currently) I wouldn't swap him for anyone, i look forward to the season where injuries don't plague him, a fully fit season from our main man would mean we are closer to the top then what we are now.We come not to play.

A couple of points - for me none of Ronaldo, Messi or Rooney have done enough at international level to warrant the praise they have been getting in terms of all time greats. A lot of the comparisons are hard to make as the quality of the teams around them and the leagues they have played in have differed.
This is the first season when it has been at all reasonable to argue the Rooney belongs in that elevated company. I would tend to think he would need to show it is not a fluke season before he is held to be genuinely as good a player but I think on balance the combination of his attacking and defensive qualities mean he has a shout, and if all three had another year of similar quality he would fully deserve the praise.
Much as I love Torres I think there are more flaws in his game than Shaggy's description allows. His hold up and link play are quite variable and unlike someone like Drogba you can't leave him isolated and expect him to keep the ball in quite the same way."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I think he's easily frustrated as United showed last week. Despite finishing coolly early on in the game, he was isolated and couldn't keep the ball to build an attack. Yes, Torres is excellent but has the makings of being the ultimate centre forward, not reached it yet.But Torres is the ultimate complete centre-forward. This is Rooney's best season so far, he'd have to have a couple of good seasons for him to be called 'world class'.I’m the showstopper, the headliner, the main event, the icon that is the Heartbreak Kid

The real question we all have to ask ourselves is this............Which player in world football would we swap Torres with?
I personaly cannot think of any player in the world I would want upfront for Liverpool instead of Torres.
(Although Messi just behind him would be a wet dream in a non homosexual kind of way!)-----------------------------------------------

Awesome, a truly wonderful ratio that is, a sign of the blokes complete and utter class and quality, we really must not let this talent go to waste, he needs a couple more great players around him....keep them all fit for a season...or most of it...and we can win the title.Originally posted by anfieldanfield View PostIt's 70 goals in 113 games for LFC.
Pretty amazing considering he doesn't take the pens and plays up top by himself in a pretty defensive team.
How many games did Fowler take to reach 100 goals ? 150-odd games ?Last edited by Vermilion; 28-03-10, 11:36 PM.
