presumably we have to have something in there about his fitness levels.

if not we're pretty dumb and have been royally screwed on that deal

How could we have something about his fitness levels in the deal?! How could you interpret his actual fitness?! Run? Walk? Suffer with a sniffle?

He'll be fine, we are just being cautious with him. This season is pretty much over, we have Gerrard back to cover the midfield role, so we are allowing ourselves time with Aquilani, not rushing him and we are treating even the slightest sniffle as if it was a full on influenza attack.

He will still be here next season, and with a full pre-season under him, will star in next seasons title winning side.

I hope your right Scratch TBH.

I get sick to death of all the negativity aimed at our players. It's Hardly Aqua's fault he gets a knock on his ( dodgy ) ankle in training.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Precisely, it's a knock, nothing more, but because it's on the ankle that was operated on, the ankle that he only recently said he still feels pain in after playing, it's not worth risking him in a Europa cup match and running the chance of a potential setback.

Rafa Benitez is about to discover the full extent of Alberto Aquilani's latest fitness setback after refusing to rule out fears his injury-jinxed midfielder could be out for the rest of the season.

The £17million signing from Roma damaged an ankle in training and failed to make the trip to Lisbon for Thursday's Europa League quarter-final first leg with Benfica after being booked in for a scan on Merseyside.

Benitez initially played down concerns that the Italy midfielder faced another lengthy lay-off but would not be drawn on the possibility that his season may already have ended.
'We have to check on Alberto and find out exactly what he has done,' said the Liverpool manager, after touching down in Lisbon and hosting a late-night press conference in the team hotel at nearly 10pm.

'We should have an answer to that sometime tomorrow and can only hope for the best in the meantime. I don't think it is too serious, but it is clear he has a problem with his ankle.
'Is that the end of his season? We have to check tomorrow. We will see then.'

                      1) We don't even know whats happened to his ankle; whether someones gone in on him too hard or he's gone over on it or whatever, it may just be bad luck and not a weak ankle.
                      2) When you have to nearly break even in two consecutive transfer windows and yet have massive amounts of pressure on you to better last seasons record points tally, you don't really want to be buying mediocrity (look at £8m Reira), Aquilani is highly rated and has showed flashes of what he can be.
                      3) If its true that we didn't pay the £20m upfront and it was £5m downpayment going up to £20, then this also tallies with the lack of investment from the Yanks. I challenge anyone to point out another such player as highly rated as Alberto who was available last summer for £5m!?
                      4) Its common sense to give him a season to bed in, judge him at the end of the next one.

The problem is our transfer budget is mediocre at best, an average premiership players are going for £7m+ these days
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
