Just watched Real Madrid TV and Alonso is just a class act. Calms it down, sprays the ball into space. If Aquilani wasn't bought as a direct replacement, it's a real shame because a player like that would make all the difference to our play at the moment.

i dont think aquilani can play in a midfield two, he would be ok in a three where the other two could make up for his physical shortcomings, but i cant see the lad being able to defend for his life like alonso did alongside masher.

He would be ok in a three or at the point of the diamond where gerrard plays. Unfortunately, gerrards got to leave for this lad to get a regular game and even then how many games will he miss because he cant handle the physicality of the english game.

Our current team was built around alonso, its no wonder that its taken the team the best part of 40 odd games to start to find its feet again. Since his departure, we miss his quality, poise and intelligence on the pitch. Add to that the fact that he was excellent defensively and good in the air.

Aquilani isnt anything like alonso because he doesnt have the bottle.

we really miss alonso and in the summer we need another midfield player to play with masher if gerrard wont be moved back. Steven defour could be a decent player for our needs.

Kewell 138 games in 5yrs = 27.6
Aurelio 82 games in 4yrs = 20.5
Aquilani 17 games with min 7 games left

Suprisingly that makes a big difference to the no of games Kewell averaged

Before passing judgement on Aquilani, we should look at his previous record, since establishing himself and excluding this season he has averaged 31 games a year (in all comps), so there have been injury problems but he's managed significant numbers of games, it was felt that he poickes up so many injuries becase Roma rushed him back, we haven't been doing that so lets hope we can sort out his injury and put it behind him.

Yep, he's just said he has an ankle injury....same injury as before...needs assessing because as yet we don't know the details of what exactly the problem is and how it will need to be treated....Some players can play with a higher pain threshold than others.

I think we will at least wait to see the new physios view on him. Potentially that could have a big impact on us next season if he could get Torres, Aquilani and Gerrard at full fitness for more games.

Rafael Benítez has shown the first signs of exasperation with Alberto Aquilani by suggesting the Liverpool midfielder's latest problem is not merely physical but psychological.

The Italy international has started only eight times for Liverpool since his ¤20m arrival from Roma and is sidelined with an ankle injury sustained in training on Wednesday. Aquilani has complained of discomfort in the same ankle that required surgery last May and which forced him to miss the first three months of this season, although scans have so far failed to identify the cause of the problem. Benítez admits he is at a loss as to when the 25-year-old will be fit but indicated that a history of injury problems is affecting Aquilani.
