Yup that's it. Utterly disgusting and disgraceful how he can dismiss Rafa in such a way after him saying that a couple of years back.Originally posted by nbryan1764 View Postyes he did, once it stopped he said something like, good can we get on with the football now. Yet he claims in this ridiculous article that Rafa has committed the cardinal sin!!

I can only assume you never actually saw Lawrenson play. Probably the best defender I've ever seen, including Hansen.Originally posted by lucas View PostThats a bit strong isn't. He was a good player but benefitted by playing alongside a real Liverpool great - Hansen.
Unfortunately he has all the tact and sensitivity of a broken pogo stick..

I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

I think the big problem is that he is paid to write so many articles for his column and he has to (despite all the ammunition that Liverpool FC provide ;-)) keep coming up with something interesting to say. It is inevitable he is going to get it wrong occasionally.Originally posted by MrMichael View Post
Jacques Brel is alive and well and playing at Anfield

People getting all precious and upset over calling an ex-player a cunt makes me laugh. Serving LFC as a player does not give anyone carte blanche to spout offensive drivel. I support Liverpool Football Club and I reserve the right to defend LFC against agenda-driven bile, be it from some cunt on the telly, a **** in the pub or an ex-player gob****e in the papers. Whelan, Lawrenson and a handful of others have talked so much ****, much of it destabilising, so why the hell should they be given a free ride? They love the sound of their own voices and they know this sort of drivel keeps their name in the papers. Cheap shots. **** them. I'll always defend LFC against this sort of ****, whoever it's come from. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

This post from RAWK is a real zinger.
I've just dug out an old book that was written by him while he was still a Liverpool player, called "Mark Lawrenson The Autobiography".
Here's a few quotes in a chapter titled "Self-Styled pundits" he wrote..
"Football provides more talking points than any other sport simply because more people are interested in it, but am I in a minority when I despair at constantly reading in some newspapers the sniping attacks which bear the names of ex players who have earned a damn good living out of the game?
I do not claim to be an expert on what sells newspapers and if that is the kind of thing which boosts circulation then people in charge may have a valid point. What they do is their business, but when I see famous names from the past racing in to knock the game which has been so good to them I do ask the question whether they really need the money so badly. It is one thing to hear a debate in the pub among genuine fans who love to talk football - none more so than those of Merseyside - but it is another thing when people are getting well paid to take a swipe at the game and individuals in it simply because they have a famous name, thanks to football."
He then finishes the chapter off with this beaut.
"This is the nearest I shall get to criticising people. Where would I be if I could not play this game? I realise what it has given me and I have no intention of losing my credibility by starting to take cheap shots at people for instant rewards."
