Obviously you need the ability in the first place but I think that this is a problem in player development in England.
i agree with you there but half of the problem is the coaches wont let them off the leash and if there face dont fit with certain coaches they will never progress, ive seen so many players held back because of politics and the click bull**** it makes me mad,for example pepe reina no doubt in my mind quality, but whos bringing our future keepers thru mark morris, who the **** is mark morris how did he get a job at liverpool in the first place he was crap at goalkeeping and a **** coach and took over from quality coaches arhh but wait a minute wernt he the guy who got pepe reina s coach and gk trainer a job before he moved to liverpool to train pepe oh and all of a sudden hes thru the back door and lands him self the new liverpool gk coach job what a crock of **** theres bull **** and arse kissing at what ever level you turn

To break through in a team like Liverpool at such a young age then they really need to be close to world class, I think its pretty much us fans expecting too much from some of them rather than them not being good enough.
They will be up against some of the best defenders in the world and if not against teams that park the bus. Completely different from reserve games and the kids need time before they can compete in the top league for a top team.

That's still no clearer to me.

i think the problem here is that every 14 or 15 year old signed by a club like liverpool is automatically billed as a future superstar, the next big thing etc....

in reality, if you look at every top club, the days of loads and loads of players coming through the system all the way to the first team are going and going fast. The only exception at the moment is Barca - they are an unreal club at developing players from an early age - we go on about gerrard and carragher being lfc bred players but barca have produced Valdes, Reina, Puyol, Pique, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Pedro, Messi, Bojan, Fabregas, Merida and hopefully Pacheco can develop into an awesome player as well - that is just unreal - it is probably around £300m worth of talent..... but this is a totally isolated case in my view.

If we can get one or two good players through every 2 or 3 years, then this would be a good turnover in my view....... i just wish we would give more a chance and keep our own bred players as oppsed to signing squad players.... put it this way, i'd prefer to see someone like Stephen Warnock in our squad / team as opposed to someone like Insua....

Insua, who we partly brought through our youth system?

Actually what I find stupid is how many people on here were clambering for Insua to get into the first team but then aren't willing to give him the chance to develop there.

I wanted to see how he would do in the first team. He's been **** so I don't want him in the first team. I think i am being pretty reasonable.

He hasn't been ****, he has been settling in and been a bit hit and miss, he needs time still.

I don't think he has been ****, over played probably but on the whole I think he's done alright. We're not struggling for 4th due to Insua. You have to be prepared to carry the odd weak link whilst they develop fully. He'll be better for having this season under his belt.
