Ian Rush admits he is relishing his latest return to Liverpool and can't wait to begin a 'new adventure' with the club.
The legendary striker was unveiled as the Reds' new Soccer Schools Ambassador this afternoon and immediately set his sights on helping to develop the club's global brand.
"It's absolutely fantastic to be back," he told Liverpoolfc.tv. "For me this is the best club in the world and the best supported one too.
"Everyone knows that there are soccer schools running throughout the world and we know there are elite players that people look to sign up.
"But we also want to give average kids a chance to learn the Liverpool way. We are aiming to do this and it won't just be in the UK, it will be worldwide.
"It's great for me because after doing my coaching badges and my UEFA Pro Licence, this is a superb opportunity.
"It's a great adventure and I'm looking forward to it. It's a lot of travelling but I want to help the club to develop as best as I can.
"It all came about after I spoke to Christian Purslow and Ian Ayre. They have been absolutely fantastic and are looking to ensure the club move forward in the right way commercially."
Rush's new role will see him travel to all corners of the world and while his main aim is to raise the profile of Liverpool he also has hopes of unearthing the latest up and coming star.
"That's what it is all about," he continued. "I'll be travelling across the world looking to see how the schools are progressing. I'll also have an input on the tactical side of things as well. We are looking for talent but we are also looking to boost the brand of Liverpool FC around the world.
"I remember Liverpool asked me to go to China in 2000 and it was only then that I realised just how big we are.
"I think we've got the right people in now and it's a long time overdue. We may not have been as successful as other teams in the last 10 years, but we've certainly been the best supported club in the world as far as I'm concerned. It's now time to build upon that."Comment

So what 'soccer schools' does Liverpool actually have throughout the world? I didn't know we had any? I knew there were grand plans to build a series of academies in the US but obviously that went kaput.Comment

On another note, I think Rushie's right in the last para of that interview - we've got a decent set-up at Academy and reserve level now. I hope that it might lead to a more intelligent procurement policy where we put more resources into bringing in fewer but better youngsters.Comment
