What is Rafa on about ?

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez was disappointed at the lapses in concentration that he felt cost his team.

"In the first half we didn't have a lot of problems and then we conceded a goal. Against a good team like United that is always a big problem," he told Sky Sports.

"When you see the players working as hard as they work, you cannot blame them, if you make a mistake, you make a mistake. From my point of view it is a pity when you concede."

Asked about the lack of goalscoring chances his side created, the Spanish boss added: "Sometimes you don't have an opportunity when you talk about a player in front of the keeper.

"We were defending well but we couldn't create a lot of clear chances, if you want to win you need to score and sometimes they score first.

"I need to think about the next game, when you are at the top, bottom or middle of the table you need to think about the next three points."

Benitez insists winning games is now the main target before the club can even entertain thoughts about being in contention at the top of the table.

"That is clear, if you want to have possibilities (of being in the title race) you need to start winning games.

"We will change things, but the team is strong enough. But after we concede we need to keep going."

The players worked hard my arse. Noone deserves any credit from todays game. Stop deluding yourself RAFA, the team is regressing and you are a big reason why. Enough of tinkiring and changing. It was so clear today the players were not interested. Why should any of them give 100% if they are getting ****ing dropped next match.

and they are playing for liverpool and the team comes first, if someone doesnt give it his all every time he puts on that shirt he's not at the right club, this is not a stepping stone to a bigger club, we are the bigger club, and this is the big leagues...

I don't see why not really. He could have said "basically second half was unacceptable. we surrendered and thats not what Liverpool players do. i'll be expecting to see some more desire on Wednesday night".

i do think the implication made in a previous post is right though. surely rotation will ultimately foster a complacent mentality.

it feels a bit like "Dont worry lads everybody's going to get a go". A bit like you would if you were running an under 7's team.

There's no territoriality about their place in the team.

There can be no possibility of one guy saying **** off this place is mine and I'm gonna keep it, whereas another guy is breathing down his neck going no **** off I'm coming to take it off you.

Its more a case of its ok we'll share it, I'll play today and then I'll let you play on Wednesday.

I dont think its desirable personally.

If a player plays well enough he will keep his spot, he might get rested for the odd game but the spot will still be his. The problem is no one is playing well enough to justify any starting positions at the moment.

Fergiescum would have come out and said his players weren't good enough if they had turned in a performance like that. No heart, no desire, no commitment = no points
