New Reds home shirt is fastest selling in Liverpool FC history

LIVERPOOL’S new home kit is the fastest selling in the club’s history, according to commercial director Ian Ayre.

The red adidas shirt, which features the logo of new sponsors Standard Chartered, was launched last month.

“We’ve had what was the fastest selling shirt we’ve ever had in the new home shirt and the largest amount of orders in the fastest time, so our retail business and particularly our shirt sales have never been so good,” Ayre said.

“It’s a great shirt. Adidas did some great work with us on that. It’s got a new sponsor and I know on the day we launched we shipped 35,000 parcels to over 100 countries. That’s a record for us on day one and sales have been fantastic since then.

“I think we’ve seen historically, and we continue to see, that our fans are very loyal and are keen to keep supporting us at retail and that’s something we’re all grateful for.”

You highlighted the cause of it "shipped 35,000 parcels to over 100 countries."

Looks like a lack of awareness to distant fans.

I went past the LFC club shop in the Liverpool One on Saturday and it was DEAD in there. Perhaps this is on shops pre-ordering the kit?

Let's wait and see how it sells over the next few months.

It's a load of balls really, isnt it?

Overseas fans seem to have much less access to what's going on, and unless they use forums such as this (and most dont), they wont have a clue.

Some of them, overseas or not, might even know, but not care.

TBH though, H&G need far more of a financial injection than that of merchandise sales, to save their arses. Merchandising revenues, in context to how much debt there is, wont even touch the sides.

Very true. Not that I know HEAPS of LFC fans over here, but only one of who I know would even know about the boycott, but if he had the cash he would still buy the jersey, others simply have no idea about it. Its very difficult to become that emotionally attatched to a club which is half way around the world so they don't see club problems as a personal issue, they are more interested in buying the jersey and watching the games. Awareness about the issue is 0 in australia unless people read on the internet because both the media and the public have no idea about it/dont care.

                  1. "According to commercial director Ian Ayre." Not exactly an unbiased or especially reliable source.
                  2. He isn't necessarily referring to consumer sales but to orders from distributors and retailers. It seems generally accepted that Ayre has changed the commercial side of LFC and made it more effective so it wouldn't be all that surprising if improved relationships with customers and a broader scope of operations have resulted in an increase in orders.
                  3. If you were the club's commercial director and you had wind of a boycott of merchandise by fans then how would you go about undermining it? One tactic would be to suggest it isn't working by saying sales are going really well so making people think there's no point them boycotting it since others aren't. In other words claim high sales and it might just become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
                  4. He's hardly going to say sales are ****, is he?

So I wouldn't write off the boycott quite yet.
                  .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
