I think Carra clearly revels when he has the role of leader at the back i.e he's the one who organises the line etc. Next to Terry or Ferdinand, who both do that job at their own clubs, it's a bit different.

But in terms of performance over the last 7 or 8 years, only a crazy person would pick King ahead of Carragher.

In terms of performances for England, King has been better.

This is totally different scenario than when he previously left. Last time he was being treated like **** by an awful manager who literally would have put the team mascot in to the team before him.

I can't remember who it was but some absolute joke of a player came in when Carra was the obvious choice and I can understand why he got upset as for everything he has done he was never given a fair crack.

He'll be looking at this now thinking they want me in because he (Capello) does actually rate me and if injuries do hit the first couple in line he will be trusted to play.

I don't think this reflects badly on him at all and fair play to him, I hope he goes and has a great summer. It's not going to affect his desire or fitness for us whatever happens.

King hasn't had to play full-back though.

It was Wes Brown, so an entirely legitimate decision.

The elements of his decision relating to focusing on LFC still apply more than ever though. He's no spring chicken and has not had a great season, and going to a WC will effect him next season.

There is no 'emergency' in the England squad so if he does change his mind and plays, it has to be seen as that, a change of mind.

Except Brown had been playing CB for Man United that season and he was brought in over Carra despite the fact Carragher had played in the friendly a few days earlier whereas Brown hadn't.

At least that's how I remember it. Although thinking about it maybe Brown had been playing RB and McLaren used him at CB. Anyway you get the idea:
              • The sense of the decision was nowhere near as a clearcut as your comment indicated.
              • My memory on the detail of what happened is somewhat hazy.
              .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

And if he does, then nobody can hold it against him.

I don't remember it that well but the situation was such that on form and ability, next in line should have been Carragher.

That's the nub of it and precisely what I thought at the time.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has backed Jamie Carragher to be a good option for England at the World Cup.

Widespread reports suggest Carragher is set to make a shock return to the international scene after retiring in 2007.

Carragher is set to be named in Capello's 30-man training squad on Tuesday and Benitez is happy to see the defender return to the international fold.

"Carra is always fit and I think he will be a very good option for England," said Benitez.

"They have centre-backs but they have had some problems. Carra can also play in two different positions. He can help England.

"I think he'll be in the squad and I say congratulations because I think it will be good for him."

I know everyone is tipping King to go but I really wouldn't take him, he's good enough in terms of ability but he rarely trains and isn't capable of playing more than 1 game a week. In the world cup you have to play every 4 days on average, meaning he'd be unavailable for every other game.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He's just played three games in 8 days But generally speaking you're right.

I think King has played 19 times for spurs this season in the league and Rio ****face has only played 12?
