What would you want if we got big investment before the transfer window was shut?

Okay, I'm talking new owners with a massive pot of cash. Forget about the debts and the stadium for just a moment. This time, just concentrate on the playing side of things.

Think for a second. Would you want a new manager, or would you want Rafa given a chance with a huge pot of money? Would you want us to spend our way to the title Chelsea like, or would you rather we went along the lines of sensible spending?

We've discussed where the squad is weak elsewhere, so what players would you bring in, name a strong starting eleven and squad players if you like and a team that will challenge for the title.

It may all be pie in the sky, but as has been proved with Chelsea and City, it's not entirely impossible that a rich benefactor will come along, especially since the whole club is up for sale. So allow yourself to dream a bit

I'm actually already stuck tbh. I'm caught between getting a new manager in or keeping Rafa. I would love to see Rafa succeed, but his style of football has really bored me to tears this year. I'm not entirely convinced he'd bring in the type of attacking players and brand of football that would be great to see.

I'd keep Rafa and give him a season, he's managed on a tight budget, and deserves a chance to see how he can do with more funds. I understand what people are saying about the style of play, but at the start of the season we were playing in a more positive manner, and similarly towards the end of the season we were heading in that direction IMO, but at both times we had injury problems.

We need to strengthen the squad in key areas, the money being pulled away from Rafa last season was the reason we didn't get a striker. And IMO with a better back up striker we would have made 4th comfortably, we may not have challenged for the title, but that additional striker would have been worth at least another 7 points (which we'd have needed for 4th).
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

If we had a pot of cash, I would get Rafa a brain transplant as i would love to keep Rafa the man here, just not Rafa the Manager.

If that was not feasible as much as i do really really like Rafa the Man, i would look at getting a new guy in as much as I think this will have a negative effect on our youth set up which i think is looking very bright.

Whether we are all falling for media I dont know, but Gerrard casts a lonely figure these days and its just not happening on the pitch.

Loads of MOney would give the club a huge lift for sure, but i think we should be looking at starting afresh and if we have the money why not?

WOuld like an attacking manager to come in who plays footie the right way Prandelli, Rikjaard, Hodgson........

I aslo dont think we need to do the stupid spending of City either with megabucks and a new manager either.

        Get in

        Striker 20m
        LB 15m
        Genuine Winger 20m
        Turdan 10m
        jovanic (sp)

dont think we would be far away next year to be honest

        65million spent. sell deadwood.

        Title won.

        Easy.

first up, bust the bank to get jose in
then bust the bank to get the stadium built ASAP
bust the bank again for ( for example ) lahm, silva, villa, higuain and martinez

buy our way back to glory......if we had the money then why not.

Hmm. I think our only problem would be the same as Citys, failure to make the Champions League. But with us being Liverpool, I do feel we'd still have a massive pull.

I think whoever mentioned Phillip Lahm, that's a great shout. Can play either left or right full back to a very high level. Ashley Cole I think is not gonna happen, likewise Villa who seems to be of to Barca.

i'm in bits over the managment - the other day, when it looked almost certain rafa was going and kenny and rush where taking over i was ****ing gutted.

Now it looks more than likely he is staying - ...................I'm ****ing gutted

I think a new manager is needed - if things stay as they are - both in terms of ownership and management then next season will be another painful one. I'm hoping a new manager will refresh and revitalise the players and the fans, and hopefully he has investment

So if we had a nice bit of investment, that cleared debt and allowed for a new manager to come in and spend say up to £100m. I'd be looking at

a left back - i can't give a name as I don't have one.....but there must be a strong, fit, athletic, left back who can control a ball out there. There must be. Arsenal plucked that Sagna for right back out of nowhere, and i'd want something similar for our left hand side and would be happy to pay up to £20m for the cunt.

Left wing - Arda Turan seems to be the name everyone wants - i'd have him or Juan Mata or both £40m for the pair

Striker - Roque Santa Cruz is a player I like - i think he'd fit into the job we need, strong, good in the air and i reckon could do the job of either partnering torres or playing up front on his own with gerrard behind if needed. - £10-15m

then - filling out the squad - I'd be bringing in Danny Wilson, Jovanovic, Jonjo Shelvey, Stephen Ireland (£10m?). Young talented players with a bit of fire in their belly, willing to fight for the shirt and prove their worth.

Next, is big one....I'd have a serious look at Kelly - if he is good enough and capable of featuring in say 20+ games a season should johnson require resting then sound. If i had any doubts i'd be looking at cover for right back. I am going to throw a complete random shout in here but bare with me - if needed, if we weren't quite sure on kelly and felt we needed something extra....i'd take a cheeky little punt on Melchiot (couple mil?) for the season. Yes the wigan right back - i've watched him a lot this season, and i think he has been a bit of unsung hero. I always thought he was ****, but he has done well for wigan, seems to be a model pro has good experience and i think he would give us a good option at right back to cover johnson. He can still defend and gets forward well enough.- I'd be happy with Johnson at right back and Kelly/Melchiot in as cover.

                  So to finish..............

                  ----------------------reina-------------------

                  johnson-------carragher----agger-----------????

                  Maxi-----------mascherano---gerrard---------turan

                  ------------------cruz-----------torres

                  With a squad of
Cavalieri or another 2nd choice if he was to go
                  Kelly
                  Melchiot
                  Skrtel
Kyriakos (he may move on if wilson is good enough)
                  Wilson
                  Insua
                  Lucas
                  Ireland
                  Shelvey
                  Mata
                  Benayoun
                  Kuyt
                  Ngog
                  Pacheco

A 26 man squad - that i'd be happy with. We only have one competition to worry about next season! the league. thats 38 games! I'd concentrate on keeping the guarenteed starters fit for league games and use the cups and europa to give game time for the squad players/youngsters.

I'd be more than ****ing happy with that

just need a name for a left back

I'd also consider getting in both James Milner and Ashley Young from Villa. Would add a different dimension to us on the wings.

Taye Taiwo is a name often mentioned at LB. But Phillip Lahm would be the dream ticket who would also come if the money was right.

This thread is very 'Championship Manager' isn't it.
The unfortunate truth is we won't get the investment in time so it really is a little pointless compiling wish lists spending 65-70m when we'll be lucky to spend 6.5-7m nett.

I agree, but money always talks and Figo would never go to Real or "once a blue, always a blue".

thats the ****er i was thinking of Taiwo - i have heard about him - him or lahm would be nice.

And yes - for the **** of it i'd take one of Milner or Young to add to the mix as well

I'd then think we have a good mix in the squad, plenty of young new talent, plenty of good experience, - and some genuine world class with reina, maschera, gerrard and torres and hopefully some potential world class or match winners in turan, mata,

exactly the same its like having a fit girlfriend that you want to dump, but when you do you are happy immediately after then gutted and thought why did i do that !!

I think in my heart of hearts we would be better with a new man. Just to many question marks over Rafa and his mentality for my liking
