    No winners in the team

One of the things that I've been thinking recently is the lack of real winners in our team. Where are the Souness' the Dalglish's?

Recently I had a debate with some people on here comparing the merits of Souness and Gerrard. My argument was that Gerrard isn't half the player that Souness was. Do you think Souness would have let the team play like that yesterday>

There is nobody in the current team who when it goes tits-up, takes responsibility to pull the it together. When we go a goal down we are completely rudderless. We're missing a souness/keane type. Badly.

Even McMahon was more effective than Gerrard IMO. No doubting who is the most talented, its gerrard by a country mile, Gerrard is arguably more talented than souness and mcmahon put together BUT the fact is, souness and mcmahon would grab the team by the scruff of the neck and MAKE them play. Gerrard can not do this.

What is pissing me off about Gerrard is the way he keeps sulking with everyone in the team when they misplace a pass or something, yet he then goes and does the exact same thing.

ffs I wanna see him encouraging his team mates.

bar the champions league final, can you think of any big game where Gerrard has taken the game by the scruff of the neck.

          FA Cup final.

          But still, that's only two.

It was one of the worst "captain's performances" I've seen yesterday.

I'm honestly not convinced he's captain material. Yes he leads by example when he's in-form but otherwise Carra is our true captain and should be given the armband.

ok, true reece, but plenty of times in the past he's gone quiet against the likes of chelsea, mancs, arsenal etc

Have shown it in the past, why not now

same thing happened just before his on/off move to chav's

he then goes running around all the positions on the pitch like a headless chicken.

yesterday Alonso played a ball into space beyond their LB, the ideal ball IMO, but Stevie had a go at him for not playing it to his feet.

Is this the problem, Stevie has the captains armband but Rafa speaks to Alonso during the match.
Its been said loads of times, does Stevie have the maturity to be captain
Its times like these we learn to live again FF

Not week in, week out. Souness was like a metronome. By the way, I'd have to disagree with the opinion that Gerrard was/is a more talented player than souness. I've seen both, close up and live, they were each strong in different areas but in terms of sheer effectiveness Souness is the better player.

I never said Gerrard was better.

Totally agree with you Tom. I was saying exactly the same thing during the match yesterday. We were waiting for someone (it had to be Stevie or even Xabi) to take the game by the scruff of the neck as United were not really impressive anyway.

On the contrary, Stevie went missing ... and Xabi quickly faded during the second half.
