Hmmm a top class manager like Capello? Who kept on asking him back into the England squad? We don't know if he will be first choice or not yet for England, but it clearly says something when he's begged back into the fold.

He's obviously not as good as he was ~2005, but he's not done yet.

Fickle fans my hairy ****ing arsehole. He is the team captain, the club captain, the leader on the field, one area I have always questioned when it comes to Stevie is he natural Leadership skills, the boat is well and truly rocked, in times like these when all around are losing there heads, the leader is often the cool head with the comforting words. Almost immediatly Pepe comes out and says whilst he sad to see Rafa go his commitment is to Liverpool, does Gerrard ? does he **** ... So we the fans have a summer of wondering if out captian is off ... Footballers make me ****ing sick

For me all I wanted was a little nod to the manager, and some reasuring words for the fans .. but he does not know his arse from his elbow when it comes to this aspect of the game, sure world class, special player .. a natural leader ? I have always suspected not

Can't take it off Gerrard, but if he leaves, Pepe would certainly be the lead candidate. I just don't see GKs making good captains on the pitch though. Would need other players with leadership qualities for it to work, which an aging Carra aside, we don't have.

A new boss can do whatever the f*ck he likes. If he doesn't want SG as capt (which I don't) then thats the end of the story. I think its all moot anyway as I agree with Nicey that he's off & the 2 c*nts will pocket the cash.
